FEMA Flood Maps

In 2016, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) released updated preliminary flood maps for all of Dare County. FEMA has now issued its letter of final map determination and the new maps will become effective on June 19, 2020.

In recognition of these changes and the challenges that the new maps present, the Town of Duck and the other municipalities in Dare County are considering the adoption of development standards that will maintain a minimum building elevation standard. These proposed standards will be reviewed and considered by the Town of Duck Planning Board and Town Council in the coming months.

Duck Trail Improvements

The Town has contracted with RPC Contracting for Duck Trail improvements to several areas of the Duck Trail. RPC has completed the new section of concrete path just south of Station Bay Drive which is awaiting seeding to stabilize the area. They have also finished improvements at the Four Seasons intersection and poured the new concrete path south of the Four Seasons Lane to Plover Drive. Further grading will be completed in this area before grass is installed to stabilize the construction zone.

Beach Grass Planting

Emerald Forest, the Town's beach grass contractor, is continuing to work south from Sanderling in the Pelican Way area and will continue in that direction until complete.

Weather permitting, Town of Duck Volunteers will be planting American beach grass Tuesday, February 4 at 1:00 p.m at the end of Sandy Ridge Drive. If you are interested in joining the effort, contact Sandy Cross at scross@townofduck.com or call 252-255-1234.
