There are still a few spots available and it would amazing if you would join me for a week of exploration, play, and exchange of ideas at one of the most respected visual arts programs in the country.

Space is limited, so if you are interested, please sign up ASAP https://www.andersonranch.org/workshop/more-is-more-china-paint-techniques-c0204-20/

More is More: China paint techniques
JUNE 8 – 12

CONCEPT China paint, luster, and cold-finishing techniques are
used all over the world to finesse and highlight many qualities
of the ceramic form. These surface decorations are used for
expressing cultural heritage, storytelling, color theory and
more. This workshop is designed to marry the ceramic form and
imagery, personalize the students’ own ceramics work, while
exploring new surface decoration techniques. Students indulge
in layer after layer of lavish ornamentation and embellishments.
Participants may bring up to four of their own glazed functional
and/or sculptural ceramic pieces to work on. Commercial glazed
ceramic tiles are provided to practice on and decorate.

MEDIA China painting, decal, flocking, gold luster, gold leaf and
gold powder applications, image transfer

FACULTY Melanie Sherman received her BFA from the Kansas
City Art Institute and has traveled across Europe and Asia to
explore overglaze and cold-finishing techniques all around
the world. She has been a resident artist at the International
Ceramics Studio in Kecskemét, Hungary where she studied with
the renowned Latvian ceramic artist Ilona Romule.

As a resident at The Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, China she developed her own designs with skilled local craftsman into a new body of work, exploring the relationship between the cultures, and how they continue to connect and influence each other through the ceramic arts.

Melanie has been a resident at The Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, Montana, Anderson Ranch in Snowmass, Colorado and Charlotte Street Foundation in Kansas City, Missouri.

Melanie has exhibited her work internationally, including Hungary, Canada, and America. She was awarded the 2014 Regina Brown Undergraduate Fellowship from the National Council for Education of the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) and the 2014 Windgate Fellowship Award by The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design.
