A Message from our NAASC President

March is here and spring is with it!  I am so looking forward to all that spring brings!  Most important is the NAASC National Election.  Since 2017, resources have been dedicated to bring electronic voting to members.  I hope you are pleased with the opportunity and that you are encouraging your friends to get their votes in on time.

Please inform chapter presidents of any members that do not use email so that they, too, can participate using the old paper ballot.  All election instructions are included in this email.  Note that according to the NAASC Constitution and Bylaws, ballots will be issued to NAASC members that were active (paid) by June 30, 2019, and delivered to the email we have on file.

I hope that by now you have seen all of our new NAASC logo swag.  To purchase items, go to the naasc.org page and click on “Shop.”  I use my NAASC shoe bag for my spinning shoes!  All proceeds help to fund the NAASC Donald & Isabel Stewart Endowed Student Scholarship.  Get these items while they last!

The link for the NAASC Annual Meeting and Luncheon is now open!  Don’t miss your opportunity to participate in this important event held on Saturday, May 16, 2020.  Tickets are $38.

Finally, please see the attached flyer for the SpelHouse PDS in Dallas, March 21, 2020.

Sisterly,

Tara L. Buckner, C’87, President
National Alumnae Association of Spelman College

San Diego - Inland Empire, CA Chapter

Winter of 2019 proved to be another season of caring, support and expressing love for the San Diego/Inland Empire Chapter.  In November, members gathered to clean/decorate rooms at a new women’s shelter in San Diego.  Members of the chapter donated comforter sets, sheets, towels, a water feature, lamp, and numerous other items to make the future residents feel respected and as though they are home.  In December, care packages were hand-delivered to 16 current students from San Diego County and the Inland Empire (it was nice to visit with each of the students during their reading period) and the chapter participated in its 2nd annual SpelHouse Christmas Fellowship and Wrapping Party.  Chapter members donated toys, clothing, and gift cards to the effort.  31 members of the San Diego/Inland Empire SpelHouse family, including 12 Spelman sisters, gathered to fellowship and wrap the gifts.  The gifts were delivered to six children of two San Diego families affiliated with the ABC Youth Foundation (http://abcyouthfoundation.org/).  In January, chapter members in San Diego gathered to participate in the annual Martin Luther King Jr. parade before watching the movie, Just Mercy and ended the month by representing our beloved alma mater in the 6th annual HBCU Expo in San Diego.  The chapter is planning its upcoming Founders Day Observance and NAASC Day of Service activities.  The next chapter meeting will be held in April 2020.  For more information about the chapter, please email sandiego@naasc.org or visit www.naascsdie.org.
