GOD CAN'T: WHY DIVINE LOVE IS UNCONTROLLING
with Thomas Jay Oord
Sun. Feb 9th at 6 pm
Why do bad things happen to good people? Why does evil exist? Some say God’s ways are not our ways. Some say God allows evil for a greater purpose or that evil is God's punishment. The usual answers fail. They don't support the truth that God loves everyone all the time. Author Thomas Jay Oord says God provides a different perspective, an understanding of God that thoughtful, ethical people can believe in. Join us to learn more.

The FUMCB Book Discussion Group will meet Tuesday, February 11th at 3 pm in the Church Library. We are reading “Love Thy Neighbor; A Muslim Doctor’s Struggle for Home in Rural America” by Ayaz Virji. We will also talk a bit about Amy Harmon’s “What the Wind Knows”, which was the book selection for January. We had to cancel our January meeting due to the weather. Everyone is welcome. If you have questions, please contact Darlene Hamilton or Phyllis Borland.

Experiments show that atheists and Christians are equally moral.  What then does Christianity have to offer if not lessons of morality?  Food and drink are optional, deep thinking and honest sharing are not!  Join us!  See Laurie E with questions.

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A BARISTA?
We all love our warm drinks on Sunday morning!  From that first cup when you arrive, to the last cup as you say goodbye, that beverage keeps you warm and makes you feel welcome. Becky Kane has made the coffee the majority of Sundays since time immemorial (or at least for a decade).  Its time to give her a break!

We’re looking for 4 or 5 people willing to come in one Sunday a month at 9 am to make beverages by 9:30 for the thirsty, and sometimes desperate, hordes. It's simple, it's important, and it's a good way to serve others!  Let Laurie E know or click
here.

2020 Finance Campaign update
We’ve received almost $200,000 in support of the 2020 budget.  Thank you to everyone who has indicated their support.  We need a bit more to keep our momentum going, however.
We have a wonderful start – a long term member is making a generous $10,000 gift and challenging all of us to step up our giving – we can make a difference!
You’ll receive a letter this week asking for your support.  If you haven’t made an estimate of giving for 2020, or may be able to give just a little bit more, please do so.  We’ve made good progress in 2019 – let’s continue in 2020.  Thanks!

FUMCB Leadership Council pledges to Resist Harm
Will YOU?

The Resist Harm Movement includes those within the UMC who cannot remain silent and thereby complicit with legislation that discriminates against LGBTQ people.  Our Leadership Council is joining with others in the Resist Harm movement who are compelled to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves and especially as it relates to LGBTQ persons who are the target of the Traditional Plan and other discriminatory provisions in The United Methodist Church’s Book of Discipline.

Through solidarity, visibility and support, FUMCB, too, will be resisting harm over the course of the next few months by engaging in a variety of activities to show that we to are resisting harm.

TO JOIN THE MOVEMENT as an INDIVIDUAL click here, review the #Resist Harm information provided and scroll to the bottom of the page to join, or go to our church website under Start Here for more information.

Thank you for all of your thoughts, prayers, phone calls, visits and cards during my recent 5 day stay in the hospital.  -Darlene Hamilton
