Volunteer Opportunity: gigs@Lincoln
PAL is seeking one or more parents willing to establish a new program for music students to be able to perform in the community. This is a fun opportunity that provides music students with experience working as musicians for hire. The parents would be responsible for creating procedures with ASB staff for evaluating opportunities and accepting payment (which would go towards the Lincoln ASB account for future needs) and then running the program in partnership with ASB and student performers. There are programs at other area high schools that can serve as examples. For more information, please contact Ed Phippen.

Girls Rock Math Service Hours Opportunities—Summer 2020
Girls Rock Math (GRM) is a non-profit offering STEAM summer camps. Their mission is to provide thought-provoking, creative experiences in math, empowering girls to develop confidence in their skills, and a life-long interest in mathematics.
Intern-Counselors are a vital part of the GRM program. They wear a staff shirt and a name badge. They attend Staff Meetings with the Counselors-in-Training (CITs), teachers, and Site Director. Intern-Counselors work with teachers to ensure campers have an enriching summer experience. Throughout the week, they work with mentors to guide them in leading, collaborating, and planning activities for campers. They reflect on their experience with other Intern-Counselors as well as their college-aged mentors. Reflection, coupled with hands-on experience, builds excellent leadership skills, all while having fun and earning service hours. (One week of camp plus training is approximately 40 hours of community service.)
Here are some other things Intern-Counselors do at camp:
• Sing, play games and do outdoor activities with campers
• Assist the teacher as needed
• Ensure campers are safe
• Work with younger campers on games, projects, and problems
• Be responsible, reliable, and punctual
• Have fun during recess and lunch
• Follow camp rules
If you know of female-identifying students who would be interested in being a part of this summer’s Intern-Counselor program, please pass along their website.

LGBTQ2+ Photo Project: “Our Students, Their Stories”
Seattle Public Schools and local Seattle photographer, Nate Gowdy, are joining forces to highlight the stories of amazing LGBTQ2+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit, queer and more) students in Seattle Public Schools, as well as LGBTQ2+ staff in a photo book and portrait exhibit.
The “Our Students, Their Stories” project will showcase the strength, resilience, and unapologetic pride of these queer and trans students. This project will also highlight the loving and supportive families of these young people, as well as shine light on some LGBTQ2+ staff who help lift up queer and trans youth in big and small ways every day.
They are seeking additional LGBTQ2+ students of all ages (and their family members) to participate. Also, they welcome more queer and trans school staff. Photoshoots will be held in January and February, require a signed photo release form, and take approximately two hours. More information can be found on the SPS Health Education website.

MEET JI SIDER!
Q&A with Ji Sider:
What is your preferred name and pronouns? My preferred name is Ji, and my preferred pronouns are she/her.
What do you do at Lincoln?
I teach French, mentor 232, and co-advise ASU.
At what other schools have you worked? I taught at Mercer Island High School for 14 years, Garfield High School for one year, Volunteer taught ESL at Refugee Women's Alliance and Volunteer taught at Seattle Children's Hospital School Room for three years.
What traditions or personal touches are you bringing to Lincoln? I would like to think that I bring a lot of cultural diversity to Lincoln. I am an immigrant from South Korea. I have lived in and visited France 15 times. I love to learn and share about world cultures.
What's your favorite memory of high school?
My high school was one of two in Cheyenne, WY. I loved getting involved in high school. I was the student body president and enjoyed participating in leadership events and camps throughout my state. Sports were also a big part of my time in high school. It was fun to travel throughout Wyoming as there weren't enough schools in our city with which to compete. We would travel long distances to play against other schools, which bonded us as teams. Spending quality time with my parents and friends is also a cherished memory.
Thank you, Ji, for sharing with us!
