Feast of the Presentation of the Lord
February 2, 2020
Forty days after the birth of Jesus, on February 2, the church celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, also called Candlemas. This year, because it falls on Sunday, we have rare privilege of celebrating this feast at our weekend liturgies. We will assemble in the gathering space to begin our liturgy. We will light and bless candles, and from there we will enter the church, singing in procession. We’ll have plenty of candles available for adults and older children to carry. (We request that you not give a lit candle to younger children.) In addition, it has been the custom for some Catholics to bring their own candles to church on that day so that they might be blessed for use in their homes throughout the coming year. Visions of the Afterlife
with Fr Michael Joncas
We will kick off the season of Lent with an afternoon of Prayer and Reflection. A welcome reception with light refreshments will begin at 4pm, followed by Fr Joncas’ talk “Visions of the Afterlife” from 4:30-5:30pm. We will conclude the day with a Lenten Vespers Prayer from 5:30-6pm. All are welcome to attend!
