Wine Tasting - Slovenian Wines from Gonc Winery

We are very excited to present to you a selection of 6 wines from Gonc Winery in Slovenia. All of these wines are made with organic fruit and made with minimal intervention in both the vineyard and wine making process. Gönc winery is a family tradition going back to the year 1936 when Peter Gene’s great grandfather built their first wine cellar and planted the vineyard around it in the small town of Dobrovnik in Slovenia. After World War II his grandfather moved to the city Ptuj where he started working in the Ptujska Klet – Ptuj wine cellar as a cellar cleaner and worked his way up to head winemaker and CEO of the oldest winery in Slovenia now know as Pullus. When Peter came of age they built a new cellar in Ptuj and started Gönc again. Peter is the 4th generation of winemakers and winegrowers in the family.

Did You Know?

Though we're enjoying the mild winter, unseasonably warm days can have devastating effects on vines. Vines can fail to become dormant, and in extreme cases produce extra crops which shortens their life span and affects the quality of the wine.

Adam's
Wine
of the Week

J. Bouchon País Blanco
Maule Valley, Chile
100% País

Pais Salvaje blanco is a wine born from a second wild discovery within JBouchon’s Pais ‘jungle’ vines. After their first harvest of Pais Salvaje in 2015, the 2016 harvest began and they realized that certain clusters of these wild vines were much lighter in color than others. They decided to harvest and vinify these lighter clusters separately and age the wine in an ancient tinaja (clay amphora) with native yeast with no filtration. Pais Salvaje blanco was born.

Abie's Beer
of the Week

Sierra Nevada
Rum-Barrel Aged Quad
Belgian Quadrupel

Draft and Cans
9.8% ABV  |  No IBU

Brewer's Notes:

This classic Quad in rum barrels is a nod to the great Trappist brewers of Belgium. Deep ruby-brown in color, the beer is rich and full-bodied with the style's familiar dark fruit flavors, while the yeast creates a hint of spice. Rum barrels impart delicate sweetness and complexity to this beer that can be enjoyed today or cellared for years to come.
