3rd Annual Community Art Show

Featured Exhibit for February, 2020

2020 Community Art Exhibit

The members of Gallery Calapooia decided that putting on an exhibit for this region's artists would be a great way to celebrate the wonderful artistic diversity of the Willamette Valley. We wanted to make this exhibit open to everybody: new artists, veteran artists, young and "not so young" artists, artists who are showing their work for the first time and artists who have been showing their work for years. This small scale exhibition celebrates the creativity of us all. By keeping the work to the 8" x 8" size (8" x 8" x 8" for three dimensional work), we were able to exhibit the work of 106 artists! Because this is our 3rd year doing this, it is so exciting to see the growth of the artists who have shown before and the work from artists who have just discovered this exhibition opportunity.

First Friday Artist Reception
February 7, 2020  6:00 - 8:00 PM

If seeing an exciting art show wasn't enough incentive to come Downtown to Gallery Calapooia on First Friday, this particular First Friday is Chocolate Walk! The businesses involved in the First Friday fun are emphasizing CHOCOLATE - in honor of Valentine's Day. So come get your chocolate fix, see some art and have a great night out with friends.
Other businesses participating in Downtown First Friday include Albany Regional Museum, Brigette's Place, Urban Ag Supply, Natty Dresser, No Dinx, Cronies Antiques, Eclectic Zebra, Sniffany’s Pet Boutique, the Crow’s Foot Gallery and more. Don’t miss the fun in Historic Downtown Albany!
If you can't make it to the reception, remember that you can still come in during Gallery hours to see this fabulous show from Jan. 28 to Feb. 22, 2020.

Recent Happenings at Gallery Calapooia

Here are some photos taken during our January Reception. It was great to see so many people coming out to support one of our new members, Mary Ridler.

But some of the really big news in early January is that we totally scraped, sanded and painted our wall panels and sculpture stands! We work as a great team!

January also brought the people entering the Community Art Show and the Gallery members pulling together to get the show hung!  More team work!

AKA,  the 8 x 8 Show!
Or as it is really titled: The Big Show of Little Art!

Here are some photos of folks working on Take In day. Unfortunately, I didn't get any of people working on Exhibit Hanging day.

Local Happenings and Upcoming Events

Members of Gallery Calapooia will be exhibiting at the Albany City Hall through February, 2020.  The show went up on January 2.

Two Gallery Calapooia Artists in "Marine Food Webs" Exhibition

Gallery Calapooia artists, Lori Garcy and Bill Thompson will be showing their work in the Giustina Galley at the LaSells Stewart Center in the “Marine Food Webs” exhibit from Feb. 1- March 12, 2020. The Center is located on Oregon State University campus in Corvallis. The exhibit is meant to encourage dialog about the importance of sustaining and preserving our ocean food web – from microscopic plankton to those that consume them. The reception for the exhibition will be held at the gallery, 875 SW 26th St., Corvallis on Thursday, Feb. 6 from 5:00 – 7:30 PM.

Both Lori and Bill have created specific pieces for the exhibit. Lori has created a three-dimensional wall piece based on her beautiful copper sea creatures while Bill will be showing two new vinyl pieces based on detail studies of an octopus and a turtle.

Mary Ridler will be showing her artwork at Sybaris Bistro during February. (HINT: Check it out when you take your honey to Sybaris for Valentine's Day! Remember, you can celebrate all month! )
