1.  What’s it Like for a Disney Cast Member to Help Grant Wishes for Make-A-Wish Kids?

This week, we’re celebrating the relationship between Disney Parks and Make-A-Wish that leads to all of the amazing wishes granted at Disney Parks every day of the year! And that got us thinking about the hard work that goes into making these life-changing wishes happen.

2.  CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF UNIVERSAL’S MARDI GRAS WITH NEW WORLDWIDE CARNIVAL FOOD AND DRINKS

Picture it. It’s a late afternoon and the streets of the New York area in Universal Studios Florida are buzzing with activity. Jazzy tunes fill your ears as you enter The French Quarter Courtyard and the spicy smell of Cajun food is in the air. It’s Mardi Gras time, ya’ll.

3.  Michigan bill would allow 16 year olds to operate amusement park rides

LANSING, Mich. — State Rep. Greg VanWoerkom, R-Norton Shores, is pushing forward a proposal in the Michigan legislature that would allow 16 year olds to operate amusement park rides. Currently in the state of Michigan, the law requires ride operators to be 18. 

4.  Here’s a cheat sheet for what happened this month in Orlando at Disney, Universal and SeaWorld 

After all the blockbuster attraction openings in 2019, you might have expected Orlando's resorts to take a little breather, but January turned out to be a busy month for theme park news. Just in case you aren't plugged into #DisTwitter 24/7, here's a cheat sheet to the latest updates from the local parks.

5.  New theme park attractions for 2020

2020 promises to be a good one for theme park fans. Writer Arthur Levine, who specializes in such things, takes you on a tour of the year's most anticipated attractions, beginning with the brand-new Legoland New York park. Located in Goshen, about 60 miles outside of Manhattan, Legoland New York will be geared to families with children and tweens and will include rides, attractions, and shows based on the popular toy brand.

6.  PHOTOS: Giant Cars Land Tarp Hides Avengers Campus Construction, Portions of Spider-Man Facade Revealed at Disney California Adventure

We are mere months away from the first phase of the MARVEL Avengers Campus land opening to guests at Disney California Adventure, and work has taken on a feverish pace. Efforts are also now underway to fix the sight-line devastation in Cars Land. Let’s take a look…

7.  Bellewaerde unveils €7.5m roller coaster Wakala

Bellewaerde has unveiled its new €7.5 million family roller coaster, Wakala. The attraction debuts in spring 2020 at the theme park in Ypres, Belgium.

8.  Carowinds Looking Into Major Area Retheme

Carowinds sent out a survey to season passholder, looking for feedback on a possible retheme to an area of the park.  Any development plans any of the Cedar Fair parks pursue is typically under tight wraps. So it is a tad bit surprising for Carowinds to be asking guests for their feedback, but we love it!
 

9.  Disney’s popcorn buckets are becoming the new must-have souvenir, but why?

ORLANDO, Fla. – When choosing the right snack at a Disney park, every family has a different answer.  There are Mickey ice-cream bars, churros, Dole Whip -- the list goes on and on. But there is one snack that not only fights an appetite but gives you a souvenir that you can use for future vacations.
 

10.  Attraction builder develops rocking ship with a splash

A German manufacturer is busy developing a new generation of attractions. Mack Rides wants classic amusement park rides, such as a rocking ship and a frisbee, with water effects. The company recently applied for patents for this from the European Patent Office patent office.

11.  Worlds of Fun Challenges California’s Great America to Super Bowl Bet

Whether they’re watching for the football, the halftime show, or the commercials, this weekend, millions of eyes around the country will be watching Super Bowl LIV between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.

12.  SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc. Announces Fourth Quarter And Fiscal 2019 Earnings Release Date And Conference Call Information

SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: SEAS) announced today that it will release its fourth quarter and fiscal 2019 financial results before the market opens on Wednesday, February 26, 2020. In conjunction with the release, the Company has scheduled a conference call, which will be broadcast live over the internet on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 9 a.m. Eastern Time. 

13.  Zambry to seek legal advice over alleged defamation linking him to MAPS closure

IPOH: Former Perak mentri besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir (pic) will seek legal advice over allegations made against him regarding the closure of the Movie Animation Park Studio (MAPS) theme park.

14.  Wild Adventures Raises Pay for New Hires

“In 2020, we are inviting our guests to ‘Live Their Wild Lives’ at our park, and offering competitive compensation helps us ensure we hire candidates who are committed to delivering that experience,” said Adam Floyd, marketing communications manager.
 

15.  Disneyland previews its new 'Magic Happens' parade floats

We are just one month away today from the premiere of Disneyland's new Magic Happens parade, and the park is sharing a new video look at the construction of the parade's all-new floats.

16.  Disney World Just Debuted Red Hot Beignets And They're Filled With Fireball

Disney has a magical way of taking foods you didn’t even know you needed and presenting them to you in the coolest way possible. The latest: Red Hot Beignets with actual crushed up Hot Tamales on top.

17.  2020 Knott’s Peanuts Celebration Food Guide

The #KnottsPeanutsCelebration is back at Knott’s Berry Farm weekends beginning January 25th through March 1st, plus select dates.  This years event builds upon the classics and adds even more Peanuts details including new photo ops, shows, and even an all new character meet and greet, Spike, Snoopy’s brother!
 

1.  Las Vegas’ tallest tower finishing remake, rename as The Strat

After more than a year and $100 million upgrading restaurants, guest rooms, the casino floor and more, The Strat in Las Vegas is nearing the end of its renovation project.  Golden Entertainment representatives told the Las Vegas Review-Journal they hope the renovations encourage guests to stay longer at the 24-story hotel and its landmark 1,149-foot tower with a restaurant, thrill rides and observation platform 921 feet above the Las Vegas Strip.

2.  Delays Hit Oslo’s New Munch Museum, Summer Tourists To Miss Out

Visitors coming to Oslo this summer to see one of Scandinavia’s most anticipated attractions have been left disappointed with the news of a delay of several months. The new Munch Museum under construction in Oslo’s emerging waterfront neighbourhood Bjørvika was supposed to open this spring. It will now not open until the fall, with a specific date yet to be announced.

3.  AmazeVR launches LBE at Incheon International Airport

AmazeVR, a premium virtual reality (VR) entertainment platform, has launched its first location-based VR experience with an installation at Incheon International Airport in Seoul, South Korea. The company hopes to expand its immersive LBE offering.

4.  AREA15: re-imagining retail and immersive entertainment in Las Vegas

Immersive experiential bazaar AREA15 will debut early this year, re-imagining retail. This is an unprecedented 200,000-square-foot retail and entertainment complex in Las Vegas.

5.  Rocket City Fun Center arcade games moving in

The Rocket City Fun Center held its grand opening January 31, 2019 and offers laser tag, bowling, a sports bar and restaurant, and was supposed to feature arcade games.  Almost a year later, the arcade games are in the process of being installed.

6.  Putters & Gutters Fun Center entertainment complex coming to Marble Falls

Talk about a hole-in-one! A massive family entertainment complex is coming to Marble Falls.  The Marble Falls Economic Development Cooperation confirmed Tuesday that a Putters & Gutters Fun Center will soon be built in the city. A video shared by the Economic Development Cooperation shows that the center will be built right next to Pedernales Electric Cooperative Inc. off of Highway 281.

7.  Nintendo To Be Awarded Over $450,000 In Court Win Against Unofficial Mario Kart Service

Nintendo has won an intellectual property infringement court case against Mari Mobility, a company which has been offering unofficial Mario Kart-inspired go kart services in Tokyo, Japan.  You may have heard of this unofficial service before; originally going by the name of Maricar, the company was found guilty of infringing upon Nintendo's Mario Kart property thanks to the closeness of its name and the Mario character outfits given out to customers back in 2018. Like a stubborn child not wanting to go to bed, Maricar decided to ignore this ruling and continued to operate as usual just a month later.

8.  Cineplex Inc. Announces Timing of Fourth Quarter and Year End 2019 Earnings Release and Conference Call

Cineplex Inc. today announced that it will release its Fourth Quarter and Year End 2019 results on Wednesday February 12, 2020 and hold a conference call that morning at 10:00am ET . Interested parties can participate in the conference call with the management of Cineplex Inc. to review the company's results for the Fourth Quarter and Year End 2019. 

9.  A Museum Dedicated to the History of Makeup Is Opening in NYC

Makeup addicts, your dream museum is coming soon to New York City.  The Makeup Museum, a brand-new space dedicated to the history of makeup and the beauty industry, will open in May 2020 in New York City, according to Hypebae.

10.  Cincinnati Museum Center sets opening for more permanent exhibits

The Cincinnati Museum Center will reopen three permanent galleries in its Cincinnati History Museum this spring.  The additions are part of the rolling openings of museum spaces following its $228 million restoration completed at the end of 2018.  The Cincinnati in Motion exhibit will return on March 20. The S-scale model of the city’s downtown in the 1940s will be joined by displays of Cincinnati neighborhoods during different decades, including the West End in the 1930s, Mount Adams in the 1920s, Spring Grove in the 1910s and Over-the-Rhine in the 1900s. It will feature unique ways to navigate the layout including sound and scent details.

1.  Manteca’s Great Wolf Lodge water park opening date set; pre-booking discounts offered

The waterslides are opening, the waterslides are opening — soon.  Great Wolf Lodge has announced the grand opening date for its new water park resort in Manteca. The massive new hotel, family entertainment center and water attraction will debut Aug. 1, the culmination of about a decade of negotiating and planning and some two years of construction.

2.  New water park, RV resort 'Splash' coming to Milton in 2020

A new RV resort and water park in Milton is set to open later this year.  Splash RV Resort & Water Park will be located off of I-10 and is less than 30 minutes from Navarre Beach, its official website says: "Splash RV Resort & Water Park promises year-round family fun for locals, interstate travelers, and snowbirds alike. Numerous pools, lazy river, cabins, zip line, lake with rentable canoes and kayaks – SPLASH combines the luxurious amenities of a top-tier resort with the fun & adventure of the best vacation spots in Florida!"

3.  Grand Bear at Starved Rock has new leadership, outlook

If you ever phoned Grand Bear in Utica and asked if your kids could play in the water park, you probably were told the water park was for guests only.  Not anymore. Two years after an accidental fire gutted the resort’s pump room, the water park is back up and running and the guests-only rule is being relaxed. The resort’s new owners plan to issue sporadic “pop-up” passes for local kids to splash around at $5 a head.

4.  Sydney is set to get an inland wave park in a VERY unusual spot - but only a select few will be able to use it

An exclusive inland wave park has been proposed for an unusual location on the outskirts of north west Sydney.  The Wisemans Ferry Retreat and Golf Club on the Hawkesbury River submitted an application to the Hills Shire Council on January 23 to construct a 13,735 square metre wave pool complete with a beach and lounge area on their existing site.

1.  OC Zoo will give its wild cats more room to play

There’s no word yet on yarn balls or laser pointers, but the wild cats who live at the OC Zoo – brother and sister mountain lions as well as bobcats and a spotted African serval – soon will be getting a bigger, more stimulating habitat for their frolicking, lounging and napping pleasure.  Construction could start as soon as this summer on new enclosures for the zoo’s large mammals, giving the animals more room to roam and the public better viewing opportunities.

2.  Virginia Aquarium, in the midst of renovations, has even bigger plans in store

If you’ve been missing the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center’s river otters Tippy, Homer and Sheldon, don’t worry, they’re relaxing behind the scenes.  A $25 million renovation of the aquarium’s Marsh Pavilion, where the otters live, is set to re-open next year. A new veterinary wing, south of the building, is under construction, too.

3.  PGAV Destinations celebrates the opening of The St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station

PGAV Destinations is proud to announce that the high-tech St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station is now open. The new attraction, designed by PGAV Destinations, is at the centre of a $187 million family entertainment complex in downtown St. Louis, within the National Historic Landmark train shed at St. Louis Union Station. This iconic building was originally opened in 1894 and was the biggest and busiest train station in the country.

4.  Zoo adds giraffe sculpture at Nashville airport

Nashville International Airport has a new greeter – a two-story tall giraffe in the rental car area.  The Nashville Zoo installed the giraffe, created by Dorand Design Studios, overnight on Jan. 9 in hopes to draw more attention to the Zoo. The giraffe is accompanied by a few pieces of luggage and signs directing toward Nashville Zoo and Kenya.

5.  Telford zoo 'too popular' to stay open at current site

A zoo has announced it is is to close to the public, prompting an outpouring of support on social media.  The Exotic Zoo in Priorslee, Telford, opened to the public in 2017, but said its popularity meant it was no longer suitable for its location.  It said it would still provide educational programmes, but public entry would stop on 23 February.

6.  11 endangered African wild dog pups are Palm Desert zoo's first newborns of 2020

Eleven endangered African wild dog pups were born at The Living Desert, the zoo’s first births of its 50th anniversary year.  The puppies were born to Beatrix and Kiraka on Saturday afternoon and evening in a private, underground birthing den. All are healthy, the zoo said. 

7.  Berlin zoo's panda twins take their 1st public tumbles

Pit and Paule, the new star attractions at Berlin's zoo, have made their first foray into the limelight, climbing and tumbling around their cub-proof indoor enclosure to the delight of the cameras.  Keepers had prepared the glass-enclosed space for the five-month-old twins' public premiere on Wednesday, removing any dangerous obstacles and filling in a water basin to prevent the endangered giant panda cubs from being injured.

8.  Pittsburgh Zoo names new clouded leopard cubs after longtime zoo docent

The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium have given names to the newest members of its zoo family.  The zoo introduced two male clouded leopard cubs in December that were born a month before to adult pair Saya and Pi. On Tuesday zoo officials said visitors can now identify the cubs as Gale and Lynn.

9.  Scottsdale’s Butterfly Wonderland earns certified autism designation

Butterfly Wonderland has joined a neighboring attraction in Scottsdale in becoming a certified autism center.  The butterfly facility is next door to OdySea Aquarium, which in July 2019 became the first Arizona attraction to receive autism certification from the International Board of Credentialing and Continued Education Standards.

10.  Aquarium Hosts Otter Bowl IV In Lieu Of Super Bowl 2020

The Puppy Bowl has been a tradition for animal lovers and football loathers alike each year on Super Bowl Sunday. But the Aquarium of the Pacific has something to one-up the puppies: otters.  The Aquarium's sea otters will vie for the championship at Otter Bowl IV, which will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 2.

1.  U.S. says China travel ban under consideration to combat coronavirus

All options, including a ban on travel from China to the U.S., must be considered to prevent a spread of the novel coronavirus, Health and Human Service secretary Alex Azar said Tuesday.

3.  Hotels are rewarding travelers for opting out of housekeeping. But where does that leave workers?

First came the pleas to re-use bathroom towels at hotels as a way to help the environment.  Now, more operators are asking guests to skip housekeeping altogether - and they're willing to sweeten the deal. Under programs with names like "Make a Green Choice," "Greener Stay" and "Green for Green," hotels are rewarding customers who choose not to have their rooms serviced during their stay with loyalty points, food and drink vouchers or other incentives.

These amazing see-through jungle pods give guests at a luxury resort in Thailand uninterrupted views of elephants by day - and the stars above at night.  The pods, called Jungle Bubbles, have been installed at the five-star Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort in Chiang Saen, northern Thailand, which claims the accommodation is a world first.

5.  Super Bowl by numbers: More than A BILLION chicken wings washed down with 50 MILLION cases of beer as 100 MILLION watch on TV, no wonder one in 10 fans won't be at work the morning after the Chiefs play the 49ers
