Urban Prototyping in Georgian Limerick
Limerick’s Georgian Neighbourhood is developing flexibly and through the use of prototyping and community participation, in close cooperation with stakeholders: citizens, companies, city administration and researchers. From 2019 to 2021, there will be three open calls for urban prototypes, focused on enabling the formation of a Positive Energy District in the Georgian Neighbourhood of Limerick City.

Berdeago Energy Fair
The fair opened its doors on Friday, January 31, and concluded on Sunday, February 2. More than fifty exhibitors related to sustainability and innovation in energy matters have been present at this event, which is now in its eighth edition. Our Follower City Sestao Berri has offered the visiting public information about the objectives of +CityxChange project, explaining the focus on smart cities, sustainable urban ecosystems and positive energy districts with zero emissions.

Matchmaking Event
Representatives from +CityxChange were present at the Matchmaking Event: City representatives meet Investors, that took place on the 20th of February, in Brussels, organised by the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities. The main aim was to discuss positive energy districts and financing for replication.

Public engagement: Do we really engage?
On the 12th of December 2019 at 2PM (CET), CityxChange, represented by Kieran Reeve (Limerick City and County Council), participated in the joint webinar hosted by Triangulum on “Citizen Engagement in Positive Energy Districts”. More than 30 participants, from all across Europe, joined the webinar to discuss and share experiences with citizen engagement in the different Lighthouse Cities.

D3.2 Delivery on the citizen participation playbook
The deliverable 3.2, Delivery of the citizen participation playbook, was submitted by Colaborativa.eu in February 2020. The Citizen Participation Playbook helps local authorities to enable local communities on how they could become a Positive Energy Block (PEB) and lead the transformation towards Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) and Cities. It is not a mere catalogue of physical and online participatory tools, but a detailed roadmap of four distinctive citizen participatory processes to co-design PEBs and PED including phases, steps, stakeholders, outcomes and a catalogue of physical tools and a set of online tools.

D2.3 Report on the Flexibility Market
The deliverable 2.3, Report on the Flexibility Market, was submitted by TrønderEnergi in December 2019. It describes a framework for how a local flexibility market (LFM) can be designed. In the context of the Positive Energy Blocks to be created within +CityxChange, LFMs provide market mechanisms to prevent grid congestion and aid with the integration of renewables. Because technological preconditions and objectives for LFMs can vary between locations, the +CityxChange project calls for a general design framework (tool) for how to proceed when considering an LFM in a given location.

+CityxChange at World Urban Forum 2020
From 8 to 13 February, the Tenth Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF) took place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Three partners of +CityxChange, NTNU, Trondheim Kommune, and ISOCARP Institute, actively participated at the event by co-hosting events, speaking at various sessions and also presenting our projects at the joint booth from ISOCARP Institute and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) as well as during two sessions at the stand.

+CityxChange Citizen participation playbook helps local authorities to enable local communities on how they could become a Positive Energy Block (PEB) and lead the transformation towards Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) and Cities. Meaningful citizen engagement is a challenge in any city-making process led by public institutions, and a key element for the success of +CityxChange. For this reason, +CityxChange Framework for Bold City Vision identifies citizen engagement as one of six main interlinked processes in which +CityxChange Citizen Participation Playbook provides new forms of deliberation and localization of the democratic process.

mySmartLife WEBINAR: Smart Building Retrofits - Lessons learnt
On 10 March 2020 from 10:00 – 11:30 CET, mySMARTLife organised a webinar on the topic of “Smart Building Retrofits – Lessons Learnt”. The webinar was launched in collaboration with the well-known EU platform Smart Cities Information System (SCIS) and focused on the implementation of retrofit measures. SmartEnCity: Academy for Zero Carbon Transition
The SmartEnCity Academy has already started on the 20 February with more than 50 attendees participating in lesson 1: "The SmartEnCity Way towards Zero Carbon City". The online training course was coming up in a new interactive format and was very well received. Lesson 1 recording.
Triangulum WEBINAR: The wider impacts of Triangulum
The final webinar of Triangulum “The Wider Impacts of Triangulum” took place on 28 January 2020 at 10 AM (CET). The webinar covered a brief overview of Triangulum, providing insights from its final year in terms of key lessons learned, leveraged value and other benefits, replication potential, etc. The webinar presented the monitoring and assessment framework and results from the final year and an example of how to involve residents in monitoring energy retrofit projects. Finally, an overview of the Triangulum experience with SCIS was given, including challenges of integrating this into a live project. Final Triangulum webinar recording.
SMARTER TOGETHER: a key part of the Vienna 2030 Strategy
For Smarter Together, it is particularly rewarding that, as with the Vienna Smart City Framework Strategy, smart ideas and concepts that have been developed or deepened and tested in Smarter Together can be found again. Particularly in the field of smart solutions for the urban environment of the 21st century, tested approaches can be found. Read more.
