Principal's Message

Dear EGRMS Families,

Our BRIDGES committee is collecting used magazines for an upcoming activity. If you have any school-appropriate magazines that you would be willing to donate to school, please drop them off at the main office sometime this week.

8th Grade Families:
This Thursday, we have an amazing opportunity to take our 8th grade students to see the musical Hamilton. Due to the time of the show, students will arrive back at school at around 5:30 p.m. Students may NOT be picked up from the show downtown, so please plan on them being dismissed from school as soon as they arrive back from the event.

Sincerely,
Jeff Dykhouse
Principal

Mischief Managed!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the Dumbledore’s Army of volunteers and donors who made the 7th Annual Interscholastic Yule Ball another record breaking success. We grew in attendance once again, with over 450 EGR students grades 3-12 participating this year. Traditional favorites such as Quidditch and Divination were joined by new additions such as the Drawing Dragons and Hogwarts Cinema. Crafts included wands, specs, autograph books and much more! A ministry officials’ decrees went unheeded and Hufflpuff took House Cup honors. Furthermore, your sock donations (570 pair!) to the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare (S.P.E.W.) freed countless house elves, and are providing warmth to local toes in need through Family Promise of Grand Rapids. Thank you!

Thank you to the generosity of EGR Parent Teacher Organizations, Kent District Library, Jose Babushka’s, Carolina Lowcountry Kitchen, Duffield Lane, Crazy Charlie’s, and Blimpie’s of Breton Village for funding and support. Thank you to Affordable Limousine and Party Bus and John Ball Traveling Zoo for their partnership. Thank you to the GVSU Grindylows Quidditch team, the EGR business community for the Hogsmeade transformation, the many talented EGR staff members who taught, supervised, and organized a night of magic, and the energetic prefects of the EGRHS Harry Potter Club. Thank you to our countless AMAZING adult volunteers for their treats, assistance, and support in making this event run smoothly as well as Minister of Management Mellish. We could not have done it without you!

In deep gratitude,

Professors Rieth and Kenward and the 2020 EGR Yule Ball Committee

Hope to see you there!

Students are issued “Way to Go” cards for demonstrating Respect, Responsibility or Personal Best by doing the right thing!  As students receive these cards, they are placed in the container located in the Main Office. Every Friday, names are drawn and announced during the afternoon announcements.  Each student selected, has the opportunity to pick a prize from the prize basket simply as a way to say “Thanks, we appreciate and recognize you!”

This week's winners are:

Isaac Sa, 6th Grade
Maxwell Baas, 6th Grade
Whitney Castenholz, 7th Grade

EGRMS Student Council

The Student Council is hosting a Cold-Weather-Clothing Drive to support In the Image. Student Council is encouraging students to donate gently used winter hats, scarves, mittens, snow pants, coats, and boots.  Students should drop items off in their BRIDGES class. A friendly competition amongst BRIDGES is in place to encourage donations. The BRIDGES class with the most donations at the end of the drive will receive a breakfast party. The drive runs from Monday, February 3rd to Friday, February 14th. Click here for more details.
