In Nepal, a New Generation of Health Risks


Excessive weight gain during pregnancy, along with associated health risks for pregnant women and their children, is on the rise in Nepal. With funding from a Rutgers Global Health Institute seed grant, Shristi Rawal, assistant professor of nutritional sciences at the School of Health Professions, is investigating the extent, possible causes, and outcomes of this problem.

Global Health Seed Grants Now Available


Rutgers Global Health Institute awards Global Health Seed Grants to faculty conducting collaborative, interdisciplinary activities that address health inequities in New Jersey and around the world. Faculty from all Rutgers locations and academic disciplines are invited to apply for the 2020 grant cycle, which has a deadline of February 28. The Global Health Seed Grants are offered in partnership with Rutgers Global.

Project Map Spotlight: Tackling Gender-Based Violence Through Women’s Sports in Kenya


A study involving the all-women Nikumbuke Soccer League in Kenya is exploring the effects of women’s sports on social norms related to gender-based violence. Rutgers Global Health Institute core faculty member Francis Barchi is collecting data via surveys, focus group discussions, and in-depth interviews in the seven villages that have women’s teams.

Rutgers Climate Task Force Town Halls
The President’s Task Force on Carbon Neutrality and Climate Resilience, co-chaired by Rutgers Global Health Institute core faculty members Robert Kopp and Kevin Lyons, is charged with developing a comprehensive climate action plan for Rutgers to consider. The purpose of the town halls is to include the Rutgers community in this process, and to provide an open forum to share ideas.
