Tourism Partners

Tourist Centre Meet-Up

We travelled to Watchet to meet with the ladies who run the tourist centres in Porlock, Minehead and Watchet.

It was an informative and productive session, where we discussed our different methods, roles and the challenges involved with operating a tourism business and promoting our respective communities.

Networking in Barnstaple

We exhibited at this year's North Devon Marketing Bureau's AGM in Barnstaple.

The event included a segment about the 'Realities of Tourism in a Competitive World' by Dr Rebecca Hawkins from The Oxford School of Hospitality Management.

Her lecture highlighted the rise of the "experience economy".

There is a growing trend for consumers to spend more of their disposable income on experiences rather than on material goods.

She also focused on a travel industry that is becoming more environmentally aware but where consumer's primary buying considerations were still driven by price and the desire to explore a place, and find a 'genuinely memorable experience'.

Her case studies involved destinations where the tourism was shaped by the communities who lived there and that in order for a sustainable tourism economy to be realised, it matters that a destination creates a market for travellers who 'fit with the residents' and 'ensuring residents feel supported' to get the most value for both tourists and community alike.

Other takeaways from the day included useful SEO tips for tourism websites and managing social media plus guest review responses and reputation management.

Coming up in February

Climate Action

Next month we are attending the Climate Action Plan community meeting on the 24th February at Lynton Town Hall.

We hope we can add to the dialogue on climate change and bringing about effect ways to reduce the impact of tourism on our environment. Every little bit helps!

Getting Noticed

New Leaflet Printing & Distribution

The new leaflet for Lynton & Lynmouth will be available very soon!

It features a useful map which highlights local walking routes, and lots of inspiration for activities and local attractions.

We are planning to use a distributor to stock targeted locations throughout the South West.

We will keep you updated on when and where it will be available.
