Make it Happen: Help for Heroes

Project Leaders:

Raquel Ruiz, Tom C. Clark HS, (Sophomore)

Her passion is traveling and volunteering.

Lukas Bonenberger
, Ward Elementary NISD (5th Grade)

His passion is playing basketball and serving as student council president.

Raquel Ruiz, a 10th grader at Clark High School, and Lukas Bonenberger, a 5th grader at Ward Elementary, joined forces for this Make It Happen Project to help collect personal care items for deployed service men and women. We have several businesses interested in helping them with this project as well as the Spanish NHS at Clark HS and Student Council at Ward Elementary. We want your help to get your school or business involved as well!

If you would like a collection box for your campus or business, please contact Mrs. Torres, the project manager, at marion@sossanantonio.org. We gladly will get donation box to you, or simply set up a container to serve as a donation box and print the donation list.

Please collect items from the list between January 21 – Feb 14, 2020.

We can set up a pick up time for the donation boxes. SOS volunteers will sort and box collections and write personal notes to our service men and women.

Thank you for your support,

Your SOS Make It Happen Team

2020 Girls Global Summit
Save your spot today for San Antonio's only free, youth-led girls conference
focused on linking local and global issues!
Register here for the free conference, with lunch and door prizes included. It's the best place to be if you're a young global citizen interested in the BIG issues of today. Typically best for middle schoolers and high schoolers, but very mature younger kids have been known to attend!

9 am - 1 pm
Sat., Feb. 15
Rosenberg Skyroom
University of the Incarnate Word
847 E. Hildebrand Ave, SA, 78212

This fun, inter-generational event expands horizons by tackling issues facing girls and women around the globe. Our team of Girls Leadership San Antonio high school interns have been working all year to plan and implement the summit. Last Saturday, they were busy painting backdrops (can you spot the profiles of Frida Kahlo and Greta Thumberg?) and finalizing the program.
What to expect:
•    An interactive day of tabletop discussions on issues such as Global Violence Against Girls and Women; Cancel Culture and Slacktivism; Women and the Media; Human Trafficking; Period Poverty...and much, much more.
•    If you are interested in presenting, let us know ASAP at
wgc.camrynblackmon@gmail.com.

•    Coffee and pastries in the a.m.
•    Lunch generously provided by H-E-B and other sponsors
•    Movement and stretch break by Yoga Day San Antonio
•    Keynote address by the 2020 WGC Globally Awesome Girl Award Winner:
Shannon Sedgwick Davis, international humanitarian and activist. She is the CEO of
Bridgeway Foundation, a philanthropic organization dedicated to
ending and preventing mass atrocities around the world.
New this year: Attendees at the summit will vote on a WGC Girls Bill of Rights to be presented to the San Antonio City Council as part of its continued focus on issues and barriers facing females in the city. We are also proud to be working in partnership with SA2020 to highlight the Cause Areas that local
youth care most about in order to set civic priorities in the ongoing
community visioning process.
