Westwood Wildcat News

February 2020

Notes from Mr. Branton:
We look forward to connecting with all the parents over the course of the next few weeks during parent-teacher conferences. We are excited to share all the wonderful progress with you about your students’ growth in the classroom. Students have worked extremely hard and they are proud of all they have accomplished thus far this year!  Staff will be revisiting goals from the beginning of the year and checking progress with those goals. New goals will be established to continue to challenge each learner for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.

Looking at the calendar, we have three weeks left of the second trimester before we head into the final trimester for the year. After students return from break, we will have one month before spring testing begins that monitors student progress and growth throughout the year. The school year is flying by quickly, and students are showing their maturity on a daily basis by practicing the Westwood Way!

Thank you for your continued support at home and partnership as we strive to produce life- long learners. Have a wonderful month of February and we are looking forward to our conferences ahead to reconnect with all our great families at Westwood.

End of day changes:
To make changes to your child's after school arrangements, please call the school office by 2:00 PM. It gets very hectic at the end of the day and the sooner we can not guarantee the message will get to your child's teacher in time.

Attendance:
Westwood opens the doors to students starting at 7:55 am. Westwood's school day starts at 8:10 a.m.  Students arriving after 8:10 a.m. need to be checked into the office by a parent or guardian, this helps ensure student safety and accurate school attendance records. Morning routines are very important to help students be ready for learning. When students are arriving late they are missing out on important routines and instruction.

Birthday Treats:
Everyone at Westwood looks forward to classroom celebrations; the activities, social interactions, and more. Our staff is encouraged to use non-food rewards and healthy snacks that contribute to our culture of healthy eating. Please refrain from bringing in large birthday cakes/cupcakes, balloons, flowers, or other large items on your student’s birthday. This is disruptive to learning and some students have allergies to these items. If you choose to send something, please consider a healthy alternative, that should fit in your student’s backpack
Winter Weather Reminders:
Students will be going outside for recess unless the "feels like" temperature is below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Please be sure your child comes to school wearing the appropriate outdoor clothing:  Snow Boots, Snow Pants, Winter Jacket, Hat and Gloves or Mittens. Please label everything you can with your child's name.
Your child will be going outside unless we have a note from a doctor stating there is a health reason why they need to stay indoors.

Lost and Found:
Our lost and found is located by the school office. Please remind your child that if they have lost anything to look there. As a reminder we are donating items that have been left behind longer than 1 month.

Bus Information:
This time of year buses may come across unforeseen issues and run behind. If this is the case please call the bus company of the bus that your child rides. The school is not always called and given information if buses are running behind. By calling the bus company directly they are able to radio the bus driver to see what the problem may be and give you an estimated time as to when the bus will be there.
