How would you change someone's day?

This past weekend's CARE service project led by the Center for Humanitarian Engagement saw a special partnership with the University Church to carry out a project called "Change the Day," started by Troy Fitzgerald, Outreach & Discipleship Pastor. Focusing on getting out into the community to do intentional acts of kindness for strangers, one group of students bought flowers to give to residents of a nearby retirement home.

Another group of students purchased a hot beverage and a gift card for a homeless man named Rob in downtown Walla Walla. As they continued to interact with Rob, they learned that a closer friend of his desperately needed a backpack and gloves. With their goal set on 'changing someone's day' for the better, they went to the nearby Goodwill store to help our new friend out. Rob called me this week to express his utmost appreciation for the kindness that was extended to him and that his friend was incredibly thankful for the backpack.

This past week was a good reminder that Jesus loves people--all people. Thank you for taking the time out of your lives to care and make a difference in the lives of others like Rob and his friend.

Blessings,
E. David Lopez
