OWON Affinity Group Initiative

In early February 2020, the Office of the Vice President for International Relations launched a new initiative under the One World \ One Northwestern (OWON) umbrella: affinity groups.

The goal of these groups is two-fold: to build networks of colleagues with similar responsibilities throughout Northwestern, and to create a space for creative problem-solving and sharing of best practices.

OWON Affinity Groups:
- Business Administration and Finances
- Marketing and Communications
- Supporting Faculty and Faculty-led Programming
- International Student Affairs
- International Student Career Opportunities & Development
- Graduate Programming and Academics
- Data Reporting and Assessment
- International Travel and Events

The groups meet twice a quarter: once individually, and once as part of the larger group to share activities.

If you have any questions about the OWON Affinity Group Initiative or are interested in joining a group, please contact Kim Rapp, Assistant Vice President for International Relations.

2019-2020 International Student & Scholar Data Report

The Office of International Student and Scholar Services (OISS) published its latest annual report this month. Featuring a revamped design, the report breaks down the international student population by numbers, origin, academic degrees and much more. Per the report, Northwestern welcomed 1,320 new international students in Fall 2019 and currently sponsors over 8,000 visitors from 129 countries — a growth of nearly 175% over the past decade.

Reminder: Foreign Influence Guideline Updates

The Office for Research recently sent an important update to its foreign influence guidelines to keep the university community informed and to help ensure Northwestern's compliance with federal regulations and policies.

New Foreign Travel Expense Reporting Requirement

A new reporting feature in NUFinancials has been implemented to better track foreign travel dates and spending so that Northwestern may more easily determine its tax residency status outside the U.S. For more information, please review the Foreign Travel Dates FAQ job aid in myHR Learn.
