Dear <<First Name>>

First of all, Happy New Year. We'd like to wish you all the best for 2020, and thank you for your continued support. Without your help, we wouldn't be able to say:

This is going to be a big year for the library. It's the year we'll finally reopen after a decade of being closed and/or demolished.

We're about to start painting it. The painting team is champing at the bit to get in - we're just waiting for the OK from Broadlands, the builders, and the sign-off from Brent's Building Control. Please stay tuned for updates.

There are lots of ways to get involved, and help get us over the finishing line. Read on.

More anon.

Wendy

A Story of Generosity

We've been overwhelmed by the generosity of so many people of late. We've had donations of
  • shelving
  • storage
  • chairs
  • filing cabinets
  • TV
  • key cabinet
  • book labeller
  • a rug and cushion covers for the children's library
  • clock
  • mugs
  • an electric piano
  • kettle (bless you, whoever you are!)
  • decorating paraphernalia (masking tape, brushes, rollers, dust sheets, brushes, paint thinner, you name it)
Many of these donations came via our Amazon wishlist. Amazon doesn't tell us who sent the items, so I can't thank you personally, but we're very grateful all the same.

The larger items of furniture came our way from two other libraries - one undergoing refurbishment and the other closing down. They've asked not to be named, but we're no less grateful. One man's cloud is another's silver lining.

Of course, there are also many other donors - of cash - which is also very welcome as we're still some way short of being able to finally finish everything off. Here's a link for those who might still like to donate.

Volunteering Opportunities

This fine object is our book labeller (also donated!). Those of you who want to help with the book stock will shortly be using it.

There are three shifts you can sign up for next month.

BOOK STOCK TEAM
Steven Cary, our book stock manager, needs a few more willing people to join his training session on how to sort and catalogue our book stock. We have 15,000 books in storage, only 500 of which have already been catalogued, (with the help of a fine team of Scouts). You can browse our fledgling catalogue and see what's in there.

If you'd like to help with this mammoth task, please attend one of the sessions that Steven is running. They are:

  • Wednesday 12 February, 1800-2000
  • Sunday 16 February, 1500-1630

We hope both of these sessions will be at the library, but you can find out more by logging into your account on Three Rings, or on our events page. You only need to attend one of these sessions.

LIBRARY FIT OUT TEAM
Alan Carter has gamely volunteered to lead our team of painters at the library. We've three shifts planned as follows:

Saturday 29 February
  • 1000-1300
  • 1300-1600
  • 1600-1900

This date is dependent on the building being signed off by Brent Building Control, so it's possible it will change.

Three Rings

Logging in for the first time.
We've over a hundred people now signed up to volunteer on our volunteering database, Three Rings. If you have volunteered, and haven't heard from us, then please let me know  - a few people seem not to have received their activation email. I can resend if necessary.

Some of you have received your emails, but are not sure what to do next. This video shows you what you need to do:
  1. log in
  2. check your details are correct
  3. tell us your availability
  4. change your password to something more memorable
  5. sign up for a shift (or two)
Don't worry - it's easy, and this video shows you how.

Remember, you won't be able to take part in a volunteering activity unless you're on Three Rings. To get on there, use this form.

Good Gym

i just wanted to give a shout out to the lovely runners of Good Gym Brent. We've had help from them in the past, delivering leaflets and so on (this is them having delivered our Crowdfunding leaflets a year or so a go). They're up for more helping now too - they'll be running from the Queensbury soon to the library to help get it ready for the painting team.

They do lots of good, and if you're thinking of getting into (or back into) running, and doing some good whlle you're at it, they're the ones to run with. Get in touch with Pritesh, their organiser.

Hire Our Spaces

We're still taking expressions of interest in hiring our spaces. We're working on our pricing schedule, which should be available after our next committee meeting at the beginning of next month. If you've asked for prices, please be patient just a little longer.

There'll be more information along shortly, but to express an interest in principle, you can use this form.

Brent Community Lottery

There's still time to get your tickets for the next draw in the Brent Community Lottery. We've raised over £300 since this launched last month, so this is a fantastic way to have a flutter, have some fun, and support the library. Thanks to all who've bought a ticket.
