I just rinsed my final skeins of naturally dyed yarn for Fibres West which is opening this Friday. I'm very excited about the colours I achieved and can't wait to have a spare moment to get some tapestry weaving started using some of the imperfect skeins I'm saving for myself.
In addition to our line of Organic Merino and Canadian alpaca yarns, at Fibres West I'll have our entire inventory of Mirrix Looms and accessories available for purchase. That means 8", 12", 16", 22", 28", 32" and 38" looms as well as bottom spring kits, the Spencer Power Treadle, loom extenders and heddles. I'm a long-time Mirrix Loom weaver, so come at me with all your questions!

I have also settled on nine projects for the year. I used The School of SweetGeorgia, online Plan Your Make Nine workshop to help narrow my list down. Two knits are on currently my needles, the Ambershore Shawl and the Mark of the Hand shawl. For links to all these patterns read my blog post HERE.

As always, local folk are busy...

News
  • Are you hesitant to use hand-dyed yarn? If so, this video by Felicia at SweetGeorgia is a must watch! She talks about the top ten fears that knitters have shared with her about knitting with hand-dyed yarns and what we need to know and consider about each one. I assure you, you will learn AT LEAST one thing from this video.
  • I'm stoked that Kim Werker has revived her podcast! It is now under the new name; Mighty Creative
  • Leanne Prain and Kim Werker are joining forces to unite two communities in Vancouver BC: makers who write, and writers who make. They're hoping to have an audience full of listeners who make, be entertained by writers who will read about all kinds of making. Learn more HERE
  • Knit Social announced their next retreat which features dye classes with Spin Cycle Yarns and spinning classes with Rachel Smith of Welford Purls.
  • The online School of SweetGeorgia has released the online workshop, Become a Lace Knitter, as well as two Tiny Tutorials for knitters, How to Wet Block and How to Steam Block.

Events Around Town

Be sure to check out our calendar from time to time. I add events as I hear about them.

Fibres West is coming up quick on Fri&Sat March 13th&14th. The location has changed this year, so don't forget to double check the address before you go. It will be held at the FIELD HOUSE, behind the Langley Events Centre, 7888 200th St, Langley, BC. Rather than entering from the Event Centre itself, head East on 80th Ave and right on 202A.
