LEHS Weekly Informational Letter
January 31, 2020

Dear LEHS Community,

I recently emailed staff a “Friday Focus” asking them to reflect and rediscover their passion for educating our kids.  It’s important to keep focused on your passion and what motivates you intrinsically.  This is important for your career, but it can be even more important in your personal life and for your family.  In the complete chaos of being a parent, we easily lose track of our passion as parents and find ourselves fighting to keep our heads above the water.  I encourage all of us to take 30 seconds, reflect on the passion we have for our children, hit the reset button, and chase that passion every minute of every day with our children.

Sincerely,
Nate Smith
Principal

PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports)
Mr. Hugus recently distributed our Renaissance Cards to students.  Students receive a bronze card with a GPA of 2.5-2.99, a silver card for 3.0-3.49, and a gold card with a GPA above 3.5.  Each of these cards has different levels of benefits, ranging from discounts at restaurants to admission to athletic events.  Over 75% of our students will receive a card, which is up slightly from last quarter.

Our staff, including teachers, bus drivers, custodians, cooks, and office staff, were all given our new wristbands for the quarter with the theme of “Be a good citizen.”  Staff award these wristbands as they see a students exhibiting behaviors that coincide with the theme of the quarter.

Student Service Projects
Art Club and National Art Honors Society members working recently at the Ronald Mcdonald House cooking dinner for the families.

The LEHS Student Union recently competed in a Toys for Tots drive with Circleville HS to collect over 900 toys for local children.

Ohio State Patrol Presentation
Students recently heard a presentation from Trooper Wilson from the Chillicothe Post of the OSHP regarding distracted driving and decisions students make.  The presentation included several videos and statistics demonstrating the speed at which these accidents occur.  It is never our intention to scare students, however Trooper Wilson’s message detailed the severity of these decisions and how they can last a lifetime.

Student Transcript Meeting
We recently held class meetings with students reviewing their transcripts and the information they hold.  We spent time reviewing the details and ensuring these transcripts were correct and accurate, however we spent more time discussing the impact of these transcripts on their lives.  The main point I harped on with students was the story these pieces of paper tell to future employers, colleges, and scholarship committees.  Their transcript does not define them, however it does tell a story about their high school career.  I asked students, “What story will your transcript tell?”  Were you involved?  Did you challenge yourself?  Did you struggle early in your career and work hard to improve?  This little piece of paper will always be here and employers regularly call asking for copies of students from decades ago.

Creative Writing Contest
There will be a Logan Elm Creative Writing Competition on Saturday, February 22nd.  If you are interested in participating, please pick up a sign up form in the office.
