From the Director's Desk

Greetings,

Happy Black History Month! We've got some great programming scheduled for this month. During this month designated for focusing on Black History, we look forward to engaging with the community around the arts, educating the community about African history as well as the accomplishments and contributions of African-Americans toward American History and empowering all community members to share gained knowledge with others. As a cultural center whose mission is to amplify black arts and black culture at all times, we always look forward to the opportunity this month provides us to interface with new community members, collaborators and partners. We're hopeful that once individuals are exposed to black arts and culture they will become ambassadors of it and BACC. In preparation for much of our Black History Month programming this year, I've personally been reflecting a lot on my limited exposure to black history, black arts and black culture in school as a youth. As a part of our strategic impact efforts at BACC over the next few years, we're focusing more on youth voice and involvement at BACC as well as being a driving force in spaces where youth are present to provide exposure to black history, heritage, culture and arts. Our programming for Black History Month is just a start toward ramping up these efforts. I'd like to encourage all community members to engage with BACC all year long, beyond Black History Month as well as to educate themselves about Black history beyond the month of February. As always, we look forward to your continued engagement and support.

Blessings,

Sydney Davis
