The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) is scheduling a conference call for interested healthcare providers on Friday, Jan. 31 at 4:30 p.m. to discuss the rapidly evolving situation involving 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV). Director of Health Nicole Alexander-Scott, MD, MPH and other RIDOH infectious disease experts will offer an overview of the latest developments at the international, national, and state levels and answer pre-submitted questions from providers. Additional questions from providers may be answered on the call, time permitting.

Although Rhode Island does not have any confirmed cases of 2019-nCoV, several healthcare providers have posed questions about the novel coronavirus and RIDOH’s monitoring and preparation efforts. RIDOH is working to obtain a conference call line with sufficient capacity to accommodate the expected interest and will provide the call-in number on Thursday.

Answers to many common questions and updated information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), along with a fact sheet answering frequently asked questions may be found on RIDOH’s website. RIDOH’s novel coronavirus web page for providers is now live. We will continue to update and add resources as they become available.

Providers should also review RIDOH’s Guidance for Rhode Island clinical providers on Novel Coronavirus (nCoV-2019), Wuhan, China and CDC Advisory 426: Update and Interim Guidance on Outbreak of 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in Wuhan, China.

Pre-registration for Friday’s conference call is encouraged. To register for the call and/or submit a question in advance for RIDOH’s experts, please email Aaron.Frechette@health.ri.gov no later than Thursday, Jan. 30 at 4:30 p.m.

For any other questions related to 2019-nCoV or to report a suspected case, please contact RIDOH’s Center for Acute Infectious Disease Epidemiology at 401-222-2577.
