On Monday, the Chiswick Book Festival and Cookbook Festival presented cheques of £5,000 each to their three charities and to St Michael & All Angels, which hosts the Festivals. See reports on ChiswickW4.com and the Chiswick Herald.
            Last night St Michael & All Angels Church was packed for The Upper Room Winter Lecture with Dame Darcey Bussell in aid of the charity. See photos on Twitter here and here and watch out for her  interview on Chiswickbuzz.net. 
 
1. Today Friday January 31st and Saturday and Sunday from 5pm at Chiswick House and Gardens, the Lightopia Festival is open, running until the end of February.

2. Also today Friday 31st at the Chiswick Playhouse above the Tabard, there are a few tickets left for the Festival of new writing – 30 short plays across five nights! Saturday is sold out.

            If you’re a writer or work in another creative job in Hounslow, the Great West Creatives Network has launched a newsletter to encourage new connections and collaborations. It’s based at Watermans in Brentford.

3. Tomorrow Saturday February 1st at 7.30 for 8pm start, it's the St Michael & All Angels Charities Quiz Night, accompanied by cheese, wine and puddings. Tables for groups or individuals. Tickets £12.50. Contact John Clark via

4. On Sunday February 2nd at 10am in St Michael & All Angels Church, it’s Family Mass for Candlemas, with singing led by The Choristers, incl Messe Basse (Gabriel Faure). Preacher Fr Thomas Couper, curate.  All welcome.        
            At 6.30pm there is Choral Evensong and Benediction, when St Michael & All Angels Choir will be joined by the choir of St Mary’s Church Richmond. Preacher, Fr Kevin Morris, the vicar. All welcome.
            As you come in, why not tap your card on our Contactless Giving point inside the church doors? We will claim the Gift Aid. 
  
5. On Monday February 3rd from 10.30 to 11.30am at The Friendship Club, Oxford Road North, W4 4DN, Age Concern Chiswick begins a series of line dancing sessions for older people.   Open to Members and non-Members, £5 each.  Book a place by calling the ACC Office on a Monday or Thursday: 020 8742 7007.  The Club is at the end of a short drive behind a block of flats, Carfax Court.
            On Monday February 3rd from 3pm to 5pm it’s the next Café Conversation session at Avanti, Bedford Corner, W4 1LD, organised by Louise Kaye, to encourage lonely or isolated people to have a cup of tea or coffee and chat to others in a similar situation. All welcome.
            On Wednesday February 5th from 2pm-4pm it’s the next Café Conversation at Cafe Grove, 7 Grove Park Road, W4 3RS.
               
6. From Wednesday February 5th to Saturday 29th at 7.30pm, the hit thriller Tryst returns to the Chiswick Playhouse above the Tabard, after a sell-out run when it got 4 and 5-star reviews. A few £15 preview tickets remain for February 5th and 6th. Friday 7th is sold out.

            On Monday February 17th, there’s a special performance for members of The Arts Society Chiswick and the Bedford Park Society with a welcome and a glass of wine. If you’re a member, see their emails, explaining how to book tickets.
 
7. Voting is now open to choose the next ‘Fourth Plinth for W4’ artwork for the wall by Turnham Green tube station, where Sir Peter Blake’s Chiswick Empire collage is currently displayed. A panel led by Sir Peter has selected a shortlist of four. Voting closes at the end of February.

8. On Friday February 7th from 12.30 to 1.15pm: Lunchtime Organ Music with Stephen Farr, Director of Music, St Paul’s Knightsbridge. Free admission, collection at end.

9. On Friday February 7th from 7.30pm in the Michael Room, St Michael’s Parish Hall: Bedford Park Society Winter Party. Tickets £20 from Postmark in Turnham Green Terrace (or online, plus admin fee) – to include drinks, canapés and entertainment by ArtsEd students, who will preview their next production.

10. On Saturday February 8th at 7.30pm at St Michael & All Angels there’s a West London Sinfonia concert: Three Timeless Masterpieces - Vaughan Williams: Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis; Mozart: Sinfonia Concertante for Winds; Brahms Symphony No 2.

11. From Tuesday February 11th to Saturday 15th at the Rose Theatre Kingston, Chiswick’s Elizabeth McGovern and Nigel Lindsay star in ‘God of Carnage’, which has had rave reviews. Details and booking

 
12. On Thursday February 13th at 8pm in the Malinova Room at POSK, 238-246 King Street W6 0RF, the Arts Society Chiswick lecture is ‘The Field of Cloth of Gold: 6,000 Englishmen in France…’ by Jo Mabbutt of the Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers. Cash bar open 
from 7pm. Non-members most welcome for £10, payable on the door. More details on the Society website.
