February 2020, The Umi Project
Each month, this email features a highlight from The Umi Project’s (TUP) work on intentional design with partners and clients. You’ll also receive 3, hand-picked links to inspire your own work in intentional design. Share this link with others so they don’t miss out on all of the fun!

A little mid-month check-in, here to share some great resources to keep you going through the winter season. January was a month for staying put, with a little travel to Anchorage and back.

Local projects are taking root, like the Homer Women in STEM Discovery Lab we’re planning, hosted by the Kachemak Bay Environmental Education Alliance (KBEEA), and an exciting project with the local homeschool network on project-based learning.

I’m also in the midst of an exciting new project to build an Educator’s Toolkit for the Climate Change documentary series A Climate for Change, which will be featured on Hawaii News Now in April!

This month’s intentional design resources hit a variety of topics, from PBL to sustainable living. Check them out and share the love.

  1. In early February, I spent time in Kahuku, HI with some inspiring elementary teachers learning PBL! This is a great article about raising the bar of rigor in PBL environments for the little ones.
  2. As a former secondary English teacher, this article sat well with me - the research paper can play a huge, authentic role in PBL!
  3. This month, I’m inspired by the sustainable actions of individuals, and it can all start in your closet. Learn more about ThredUp’s initiative to decrease the fashion industry’s environmental impact - I smell a great math project out of this one!

Share the love by encouraging families, friends and colleagues to join our email list. Each month you'll receive 3, hand-picked links to inspire your own work in intentional design.
