Important Update for Water Access Property Owners Re:
Waste Bins

Below is an important update regarding the District plan to remove 88 waste bins from Muskoka. First, a few factual reminders.

  • The District has been instructed by the Province to remove all 88 non- conforming waste bins by 2023 in Muskoka and is obliged to comply with the request.
  • 13 of the most problematic bins will be removed in 2020 and are located as indicated below.
  1. Georgian Bay — Brandy’s Cove Yachting Centre
  2. Georgian Bay — Honey Harbour Town Centre
  3. Muskoka Lakes — McDonald Road
  4. Muskoka Lakes — Hamills Point Road
  5. Huntsville — Rivercove Drive
  6. Huntsville — North Mary Lake Road
  7. Bracebridge — Caribou Road/Blenkins Way
  8. Bracebridge — Leech/Pine Lake Road
  9. Gravenhurst — Franklin Park
  10. Gravenhurst — Dennes Marina Dock
  11. Gravenhurst — Rockhaven Resort
  12. Gravenhurst — Hewitt Landing
  13. Gravenhurst — Riley Lake Road
  • The District understands the impact on water access property owners and staff has been meeting and working collaboratively with the MLA on the matter to find appropriate solutions.

  • The MLA will continue to meet with District staff to impress upon them the need for improved timely communication with taxpayers and the importance of quickly communicating the alternative service plan they have in mind for trash management for the water access population in Muskoka. A consultant has been hired by the District to help find such solutions.
