L E N T
The word "Lent" means springtime. It comes from the same root as "lengthen". Daytime lengthens during Lent. The Northern hemisphere turns toward to sun, the source of life. In the lengthening brightness from Ash Wednesday until Holy Thursday afternoon, our holy Lent, we turn to God, the source of our life.

Ash Wednesday
February 26

8:00am Mass and Ashes
6:00pm Soup Supper
7:00pm Prayer Service and Ashes
We begin our Lenten journey by being marked with ashes in the sign of the cross. In this simple signing, our baptismal seal retraced, we enter into the Paschal Season. This is a day of prayer and fasting. We begin our observation of Lent by self-examination and self-denial.

Sundays during Lent
March 8-April 5
5:00pm in the Chapel
We gather on Sundays during Lent to give thanks for the day that is ending. We praise Christ who is "radiant light". We pray the evening psalms and the Magnificat, singing of God's promise of mercy. As darkness falls, we lift up to God the needs and sorrows and failures of all the world.
