LETTER FROM THE CHAIR

Dear FNAME,

I hope you are safe and healthy.

We, as New Yorkers, never thought that our beloved city would be called “the epicenter of a global pandemic” one day. While we lived through some dark times, nowadays, New York City is waking up from its hibernation. Life started going back to a "new" normal, and it is great to see that many New Yorkers follow the guidelines as suggested by public health experts by wearing masks and practicing social distancing. It will take time for sure, but I want to believe that we will emerge stronger than ever from this pandemic!

Like all of you, we had to switch to remote teaching almost overnight in mid-March and completed our spring classes by teaching via different technology. While it was a transition that nobody had planned for, all my marketing colleagues, and in fact, all of our colleagues in other areas at the Gabelli School of Business, did a great job in finishing their spring classes. I am thankful for all the effort and hard work of my colleagues to still deliver high quality classes that reflect Fordham’s tenet of cure personalis or "a care for the whole person”. Our collective appreciation goes to Gabelli IT team as we could not finish the spring semester without their continuing support. More importantly, my colleagues and I wish the best of luck to the Class of 2020! Gabelli School graduates are not just bright and well-trained but also compassionate, caring and prepared to make a positive change in the world. We could not be prouder of them!

This is the last newsletter that I am sending to you as the Marketing Area Chair. I will finish my term on June 30th after serving as the chair for seven years. It has been a great privilege and honor to serve my colleagues, and I am very proud of what we have collectively achieved over those seven years. My dear colleague, Mohammad Nejad will take over as the Chair starting on July 1st. I have no doubt that our area will continue to shine under his leadership. I would like to use this e-newsletter as an opportunity to thank all my marketing colleagues for making my otherwise stressful job easier; our Dean Donna Rappaccioli for her support and guidance; all staff and administrators at Gabelli School of Business for helping me whenever I needed; and Aida Lahood, the Marketing Area Manager, for bearing with me over the years, and helping me with many things including these
e-newsletters.

Starting on July 1, I will go back to the faculty ranks and start my 16th year at the Gabelli School of Business this fall. My open invitation still holds. If you happen to be in New York City, feel free to stop by at our campus and say hi. You can continue to contact me at
Kabadayi@Fordham.edu.

Have a great and safe summer.

Best Regards,
Sertan Kabadayi, PhD
Professor of Marketing
