Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep”
(John 10:11).

Dear friends in Jesus, our Good Shepherd,

Flowers. Chocolate. Dinner. Candy hearts. Even a smile. There are many ways people declare their love for others. Many are being expressed today. "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers" (1 John 3:16). Our Savior Jesus has declared his love to us. He has also proven his love for us by giving his life on our behalf. Jesus also gives us gifts that will bring a wider smile than when we receive a box of chocolates. Through his death and resurrection, Jesus gives us a new life that looks to reflect his love for the people that God has placed around us. He even gives us a future in heaven where we will live in the light of his love forever.

Our Theme for This Sunday: You Are Reconciled in Your Relationships
In the Gospel Lesson, we will hear the Savior’s Sermon: Live a holy life! Jesus came to free us from sin. He did not come to free us to sin. The commands in the lessons today remind us just how holy our God is, and their dire warnings remind us just how holy he wants us to be. After examining our lives, we must despair, but the Verse of the Day reminds us to flee to Jesus who has the words of life. Jesus has reconciled us to God! Then the Prayer of the Day asks that we might be given the grace to both know and do what pleases him. Jesus gives us a new life filled with a desire to reconcile sin-damaged relationships.

See you this weekend!

Ash Wednesday is February 26
Let us gather together on Ash Wednesday, February 26, for a Dinner catered by Luis Contreras at 6:00 PM and for Worship at 7:15 PM.  Joel 2:13, “Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in love.”

Lent Midweek Worship Series
Ash Wednesday begins our midweek Lent services, each Wednesday evening at 7:15pm, from February 26 to April 1. Join us for midweek services under the theme of “The Son of God Goes Forth to War.” Many people picture Jesus in robes, holding a shepherd’s staff and guiding his sheep. Others see him crowned and bright, sitting on a throne in heaven. Less commonly today, we recognize him as the brave and often-opposed soldier the Word tells us he is. This Lenten season, we will take a thoughtful look at Christ’s role as a warrior by reflecting on Scripture’s telling of the battle against sin and death that Jesus fought and won for us. We will focus on the tremendous courage, humility, and power of our Savior—and his ultimate victory!  Join us!

Lent Midweek Rotation
We are thankful for the opportunity to have guest preachers from our nearby sister congregations. Our Wednesday services also include the pastors and vicar (intern) from Abiding Word in Houston and Beautiful Savior in College Station. Each service will focus on an aspect of our Savior-warrior as he is promised to us, fights our enemies for us, and triumphs over them for us. Here is our series:
Fellowship Outing: MLS Match—Houston Dynamo vs. Seattle Sounders
Join us as the Dynamo battle the Sounders! March 14, 7:30 pm at BBVA Stadium in Houston. Tickets are $40. (These tickets are typically around $60.) Sign up by February 26 in the church entryway or email us at office@gslcthewoodlands.org
