February 17, 2020
Dear <<First Name>>

Demolition started Saturday the 8th, with our volunteers, DeMay Grunden, Aric inglet, Peggy Cox, Marcus Gao, Kent Tretheway, Max Montgomery, Doug Randolph, Tony Blair, and Mike Wagner ripping things apart! We’re not sure who had more fun or benefited the most from letting loose and taking out their aggression via a sledgehammer, but if you’re in the area and want to get in on the action then contact Mike Wagner at mikewagner@sjmsmuseum.org The benefits are life long and it's for a great cause.  Every dollar saved is a dollar towards beautifying the museum.

Old Boy Spotlight

Mark Cerney, Old Boy, 1986

How could you find your loved ones, if a national disaster struck? What resources would you have, just to hear their voice and to know they’re ok?   In a world that revolves on instant responses, not being able to get answers on your loved ones can result in the worst time of your life.

Mark V Cerney, Old Boy 1986, is the founder and President of the nonprofit organization, Next of Kin Registry, (NOKR) which is a free resource for the public to register emergency contact information that is only accessible to emergency agencies.  NOKR has over 3,800 volunteers in 50 states and 87 countries to assist when a disaster happens.  Some of the recognized disasters include Hurricane Katrina, the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, 2017 Las Vegas shooting to the 2020 Australian fires and currently the Coronavirus Epidemic out of China. NOKR truly emphasizes on daily emergencies, traffic accidents, house fires a missing person.  Over 400 million people have registered in the Next of Kin Registry.

“It takes many hands to do this work”, stated Mark. Neil Therrien, Old Boy 1986 has been a member of the NOKR military campaign for over 13 years, and John Hill, who attended SJMS, was part of Hurricane Katrina efforts.  Hill was interviewed by Larry King on CNN.  https://youtu.be/qVT74piVBGw

St. John's Military School Historical Museum BOD Members Visit the Wentworth Museum

Report Filed by Kent Tretheway, SJMSHM Curator:
On 6 February, 2020,  at the invitation of George J. Hittner , Chairman, Mike Wagner, Kent Tretheway and Roy Lawrence visited the Wentworth Military Academy (WMA) Museum.  We were greeted by Sue Webster, Curator.

When the school closed, all assets became property of a bank. As the result, all historical artifacts and memorabilia had to be purchased or negotiated for.  The Alumni Association purchased a building in Lexington to house the museum.   To read more about WMA Museum, please go to WMAMuseum.org.

We were greeted by Sue Webster, Curator.  The building was previously used as a mercantile. Original wood floors and decorative tin ceilings add character and compliments the historical displays.    While touring the variety of display areas, we discussed their philosophy and issues with how to faithfully display the WMA history.

They were fortunate to secure many of the very nice display cases Click here to continue Reading and a photo gallery ....
