My position as Admin Officer comes to an end on 29th February.  It has been a pleasure to keep you all in contact over 6 1/2 years (with a break in 2016-17).  The Committee works continuously to forge stronger ties and provide valuable information and support to members.  The biennial conference is a fabulous way to connect and gain valuable ideas from fellow Friends.  I hope you can attend this year.  I wish you and the Association the very best for the future.

ASSOCIATED ORGANISATIONS' NEWS

The Botanic Gardens Biosecurity Network has been established by Plant Health Australia (PHA) in late 2019. The aim of the Network is to build biosecurity knowledge and capacity to protect botanic gardens from plant pests and diseases. The project aims to empower staff and volunteers in botanic gardens to help spread knowledge about biosecurity and undertake general surveillance activities.  PHA are working with Friends, guides and visitor experience officers in a pilot to share and spread knowledge on biosecurity and surveillance, especially how to look out for exotic plant pests in their botanic and home gardens and how to keep gardens safe from new pests.
One component of the project has been the establishment of the Botanic Gardens Biosecurity Network website (extensionaus.com.au/botanicgardensbiosecurity/home). The site aims to act as a focal point for providing practical information and advice to staff of botanic gardens, community interest groups and members of the public to develop awareness, knowledge and skills to contribute to general biosecurity surveillance activities.

We have over 100 botanic gardens, arboretum and private gardens taking part again this year, and we'd love to hear your plans once you have them confirmed for this year.

BGANZ will be providing a number of free resources and aiming to promote the work of Conservation, in its broadest form, in your Botanic Garden.

The focus will be on the rare or endangered plant or plants you may have growing in your garden. Details to follow.
