Project Quilting 11.4: Birds in the Air
I'm on a bit of a black, white, and one other color kick. I think this is a color palette that you just can't go wrong with. My plans for this one-week challenge quilt were for it to be quilt a bit larger, but I edited it down in size as I rushed to finish it before the deadline. It's the first in a series of single block quilts as samples for ways to use scrappy slabs in traditional quilt blocks. What's your favorite traditional quilt block?

Project QUILTING 11.2 and 11.3
For Project QUILTING I often layer my own challenge on top of the theme of the week. I've used past challenges to try out new ideas or to create additional samples for workshops I am teaching. I missed the first challenge of the season, but the second and third challenges started a series of improv log cabins for me. I had a great time playing with different variations for these two mini quilts. I have a whole list of additional ideas to try out and have pulled yellow fabrics for my third in the series.

Hello Quilting Friends,
It's been a while. Welcome to everyone who is new to my newsletter in the past couple of months!
First... today is the last day to link up with my new monthly linkup, so hop over right now and Show Me Something with Triangles. This is a monthly linkup, announced the first of the month and open through the end of the month (PST). All the details are in each monthly post. Feel free to email me with any questions. If you don't have a project to share, please still check back at the end of each month to see what others have shared. (In January, 43 purple projects were shared.)
So far in 2020, I have visited two lovely quilt guilds. First, in January, I gave my Quilting with Kids lecture to the Country Crossroads Quilters in Modesto, CA. This is a fun lecture for me because it's very nostalgic of when I started quilting with my kids five years ago. Then in March, I visited the Delta Quilters in Brentwood, CA where I shared my Rules and Options of Planned Improv Piecing lecture and truck show. This lecture encompasses my strategies and techniques for Planned Improv and gives viewers many ideas for implementing a little improv play at home. If you've seen and been inspired by this lecture, I'd love to see what you've made. Hit reply and send me a picture of your project. :-)
I've also finished four challenge quilts since the first of the year. Three for Project QUILTING (the next challenge will be announced tomorrow morning on Kim's blog) and one for Golden State Quilting, a local quilt shop.
I also shared how I organize my thread on the blog. And for those of you who haven't seen it, here's a link to my Machine Binding Tutorial. :-)
March will be a busy month with two teaching trips to Southern California. I'm excited for back to back weekends of Planned Improv lectures and workshops.
I've been feeling the itch lately to work some non-fabric creativity into my life. I recently picked Zentangle back up (the cross over skills with free motion quilting are great!). And I'm feeling a pull to try out watercolor... though it's a little intimidating. What other creative things do you enjoy doing?
Happy quilting and making. Enjoy your extra day today!
P.S. Don't forget to hit reply and tell me what your favorite traditional quilt block is!
