ARCA NEEDS YOUR HELP!
ARCA recently began the third phase of its project (not) just a question of money to support efforts to diversify organizational revenues using management and promotion tools, including a series of informational videos. This series of videos is being designed as a mediation tool for ARC administrators seeking corporate sponsorships, for example, or simply in promoting their services to students, emerging artists, curators, educators. An emphasis upon service (i.e., as opposed to programming) may seem less than dreamy to our ears, but it is intrinsic to the emergence of artist-run centres, which came into existence thanks to the impulses of artists who organized themselves to acquire exhibition and networking spaces, and production gear and facilities.
ARCA needs your help to source video documentation and archival footage that highlight some of the services offered at your centres: support for creation (residencies, artist workshops, production workshops), dissemination (formal or informal exhibition spaces, or in public space), mediation (visits, interviews, talks or workshops with the artists), and democratic life (meetings of committees, assemblies, retreats, parties, and special member activities). We will do our utmost to tell a plausible story that represents your centre and the artists you serve, without being a fully precise portrait (how could we, given that there are some 180 artist-run centres?).
As you may recall, in October 2018, ARCA was awarded financial assistance in the amount of $143,534, over three years, from the Strategic Initiatives component of the Canada Cultural Investment Fund. The funds are intended to develop the capacity, on the part of ARCA and its membership of small arts organizations, to better account for public investment to funders, beneficiaries, donors, sponsors, and other stakeholders.

ARCA vient d’amorcer la 3e phase de son projet (pas) juste une question d’argent qui vise à soutenir les efforts de diversification des revenus au moyen d’outils de gestion et de promotion, dont une série de capsules vidéo. Cette série de vidéos est conçue comme un instrument de médiation au service des gestionnaires des CAA en quête de commandites, par exemple, ou, simplement, pour faire connaître leurs services aux étudiants et professionnels de la relève. Bien que la notion de service puisse sonner moins inspirante à nos oreilles, elle demeure intrinsèque au rôle des centres d’artistes autogérés nés sous l’impulsion d’artistes qui s’organisent pour se doter de lieux, d’équipements et d’espace d’échange d’information et de réseautage.
Nous avons besoin de vous pour recueillir du matériel documentaire qui met en valeur les services courants offerts dans vos centres : soutien à la création (résidences, ateliers d’artistes, ateliers de production), à la diffusion (espaces de diffusion formels ou informels, ou dans l’espace public), à la médiation (visites, entrevues, causeries et ateliers en présence des artistes), à la vie démocratique (rencontre de comités, assemblées, lacs à l’épaule, fêtes et activités spéciales des membres). Nous ferons l’impossible pour raconter une histoire plausible qui vous ressemble sans être votre portrait exact (comment pourrions-nous, considérant qu’il existe près de 180 centres!).
On se rappellera qu’en octobre 2018, l’ARCA a obtenu un soutien financier de 143 534 $ du volet Initiatives stratégiques du Fonds du Canada pour l’investissement en culture pour nous aider, ainsi que nos membres, à évaluer et à mieux rendre compte des investissements publics en culture auprès des bailleurs de fonds, des bénéficiaires, des donateurs, des commanditaires et des autres parties prenantes.
