Hi All!

Here’s your weekly dose of FIVER FRIDAY, a list of what I've found useful or informational this week concerning education.

Tweet I'm liking--

Tab organization within Google Chrome (shared by Sarah Camp). I haven't tried this yet, but I think it could be useful--browser tabs can quickly become unruly.

Post I'm reading--

Don't Forget: You, Too, Can Acquire a Super Memory by Catherine Caruso. From the piece: “'All our brains are malleable all the time, and this is just another piece of evidence of that,' he says. 'If you learn something, and you learn it well, the brain changes.'”

Book I'm reading--

Finding the Winning Edge by Bill Walsh. I've been obsessed with this hard-to-find book after reading an article about it years ago, and I finally got my hands on a copy. It's everything I hoped it would be.

Poem I'm reading--
"Paratrooper's Prayer" by André Zirnheld. (The linked picture is from Call Sign Chaos.) A variation in the translation can be found on Wikipedia here

Quote I'm pondering--

“For men and women who are extremely good at what they do, nothing is more discouraging than discovering that the thing they do so well isn't what's needed to get the job done. When a successful manager confronts a situation in which a philosophy that has always worked--and he has every reason to believe is fundamentally sound--fails, he may have to face the hard fact that the ground rules have changed and that he and his way of doing things may be the problem.

"In the world of fast companies, this kind of thing happens all the time. The true test of leadership is the adaptability and flexibility a manager brings to this type of situation. The challenge comes in having to leave your comfort zone--an area where you've been operating effectively, perhaps for years."--Bill Walsh, "When Good Isn't Good Enough," Forbes, April 11, 1994.
