Hi <<First Name>>,

I was talking with a friend last week who is frustrated in business. He has had business deals fall through for random reasons. He asked me, "Is it correct to assume that there is a reason God didn’t want me to have the business or is it just the way it is?"

I replied, "You probably don’t want any Christian cliches. So I won't give you any. I don’t always think it helps to overthink the lessons God is trying to teach me with every event in my life." I went on to explain that I often ask the question of how and why regarding God's will in my life. Why is this happening God? How does this fit with your will Lord?

But I don't get answers.

I am learning that I should be asking "who" questions. Who do I need to be in order for God to guide me? God is more interested in making me a certain kind of person that he can guide. He rarely answers my questions about why this or that is happening, what I am supposed to do, or how am I to know his will.

He does want to train me to be a certain kind of person who can discern his will and know his ways, regardless of whether I can back it up with a Bible verse or have "heard his voice." Then when the business deal falls through, the friend fails me, or the car breaks down, I am not asking Why God? Instead, I respond out of my "who-ness" that God is shaping.
