  • Saturday, February 22, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm: continuation of “Eucharist as Reconciliation” concluding with a Eucharist in the church
  • Sunday, February 23: The Rev. Canon Dr. Hills will present during the formation hour and will preach at the 8:00 and 10:30 am services.

Canon Hills has lived in South Africa and Northern Ireland during times of deep division within those countries. She has been involved with Church of England reconciliation projects in South Africa, Northern Ireland, Iraq, East Africa, Germany, and elsewhere, and continues to be today — for example, in South Florida and Cuba two years ago. She is connected with reconciliation ministries across the world, and is close to both Archbishop Tutu and the Archbishop of Canterbury, whom both held her previous position as Canon for Reconciliation at Coventry Cathedral.

Our theme this Lent at Good Shepherd is Well-Fed: Holy Food for a Reconciled Life. Canon Hills' weekend with us should be a great introduction to immersing ourselves in the topic.

Happening in our community, diocese, and around The Episcopal Church

Reconciling Thoughts from Bishop Brian

Two weeks ago, I was in Rome.

Italy, not Georgia. Someday, I hope to visit Rome, Georgia.
I was in Rome, Italy, as a guest of my friend, Austin Rios, who is the Rector of St. Paul’s Within the Walls Episcopal Church. It is the center of all Episcopal work in Rome.

Along with a parish church and all the ministries that come with that anywhere, St. Paul’s Within the Walls also houses a significant ministry to the refugee population in Rome. The Joel Nafuma Refugee Center was initially a response to refugees fleeing Uganda during the reign of terror of Idi Amin. While Amin is no more, we still live in a world that makes refugees. So, the Nafuma Refugee Center continues to welcome.

How We Are the Church Together

Beginning in January, Olivet Baptist Church, St. Paul AME Church and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church are offering to the public a Bible study that will span over the course of five months.

Topics include:
  • Let Us Break Bread Together-Shared Communion Styles,
  • Build a Bridge-Not a Wall,
  • Intercessory Prayer: Intercede For Another,
  • Check Your Mindset, and
  • I Will Burn That Bridge When I Get To It.
This Bible study will meet one Tuesday each month from 5:30 - 7:00 pm and is open to the public. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to partner with these Chattanooga area churches as we continue building relationships, learning, and worshipping together.

For more information, contact St. Paul's Episcopal Church at (423) 266-8195 or click here for the event post on Facebook.

They live out S.O.I.L. (Sacramental, Organic, Intentional Living), sharing the rhythm and routine of daily prayer, working in the convent and the garden, and representing the Community in the surrounding community as well as the world at large.

Summer Internship runs May 25 - August 7, 2020
