Bickles Hardware Public Art Recognition
At Tuesday's meeting, the City's Public Art Advisory Task Force recognized Victor DeCaria, owner of Bickles Hardware and Supply for the impressive visual display on the store's facade, enhancing the community and the Main & Ferry area. It was at the company's 100th Anniversary celebrations last year that the five-tonne piece of art was unveiled. The work features 11 life-sized steelworkers sitting atop a massive riveted beam - a re-creation of a famous photo taken 850 feet above Manhattan in 1932 with the men building the Rockefeller Centre eating lunch while sitting on a beam. The visual display has quickly become a draw to the area and has significantly contributed to the area's revitalization.
