Better Code Monday 10/02/20

Good day/evening! 👋

Here are this week's three coding tips:

Tip #1 - Validation made easy

class-validator is a neat validation library. It allows you to use decorator-based validation. Check it out, especially if you are using Typescript.

Tip #2 - Tell me why

"Good code documents itself"

While this is true, it doesn't cover everything. Code tends to document "how" something is being done. But we also need to mention "why" something is done.

When writing code, try to write a comment about special requirements. Things that have business logic should have comments. Explain why your code is doing what it is doing.

Tip #3 - Build your foundation 💯

Aim to optimize your programming environment. It will pay back many folds.

Some ideas:
  • Learn OS shortcuts.
  • Use the keyboard instead of the mouse.
  • Learn your code editor's shortcuts.
  • Use extensions that automate repetitive tasks.
  • Remove all old files that clutter your computer.
  • Develop your dotfiles and store them online.

You don't have to do everything at once. You can aim to improve a little bit, every day!
