DO YOU KNOW MARCH IS WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH?

It is.  LWVPBC will be closing out this important month with a Cool Topic Presentation on “Senior Women and Safety” at the STEM Center in Dreher Park (across from the Science Museum) on Saturday, 3/28/20 at 10 A.M.

Dr. Shelley Plumb is the Moderator.  Jan Killilea of First Wives Advocacy will talk on "Senior women outliving their resources and denied alimony"

Michael B. Edmondson, Executive Assistant to State Attorney Dave Aronberg will discuss "Elder Abuse"

Jennifer Rey, Program Services Diresctor of Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse, Inc. (AVDA), will discuss "Domestic Violence"

Verdenia C. Baker, PB County Administrator will speak on "Female homelessness in PBC and resources for senior women"

All are welcome, senior or young with mothers and grandmothers or planning on getting older; female or male; members of the League or not.

LWVPBC is extremely thankful to PBC NOW for assembling such a great panel of speakers.  PBC NOW worked hard, especially Rebecca Andre, to get us a powerful and informed panel and I hope many will come to hear what they have to impart to us.

SECURING YOUR VOTE

With rising concerns about voting security, the Florida League is encouraging voters to vote in person at early voting locations or in their precinct on election day. If voters select to vote by mail, all local Leagues are requested to remind those that vote by mail to track the receipt of their ballot with the Supervisor of Elections Office.  It can be done on computer or by phoning 561-656-6200.
SOME FRIENDLY ADVICE FROM HEALTHCARE ISSUE GROUP
By Nancy Gau and Brent Schillinger, M.D.

The LWVPBC Healthcare Committee would like to provide our members with some helpful information about the potential spread of the neo-coronavirus virus in the U.S.  All tips were taken from the CDC website.

- First and foremost, STAY CALM.
- Proper hand washing technique: use warm water and soap, and scrub for 20 seconds.
- When you are out, use hand sanitizer.  (It should be at least 60% alcohol.) (Some say this is actually better than 100% rubbing alcohol.)
- Stay home if you do become  ill, except to visit your physician.
- If you become symptomatic and contact your physician for an appointment, advise them of your symptoms and wear a mask if possible, to protect others in the office.
- Never touch your mouth, nose, or eyes (without hand washing first).
- Avoid shaking hands. (Bump fists instead!)
- When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with your arm, instead of your hands.
- Consult the CDC and FL Department of Health websites for additional information.
- Don’t check your investments for the next two weeks.

That last one was just a bit of humor folks. In all sincerity, stay calm and stay well.
