We hope you've been enjoying the second half of winter as much as we have at the WRP - plugging away at our to-do list seems easier with more daylight streaming-in the windows at the office!
One of the items on our to-do list is our 2019 Annual Report, which highlights our collective work to improve the long-term health of the White River over the course of the last year. Another item on our to-do list is events planning for 2020 - from 2-hour volunteer events like planting trees along the river to season-long stewardship opportunities like monitoring White River Water Trail sites to partner-led activities like RASTA's Peavine Whitewater Race in May (see more information below). We'll keep you posted about 2020 events in this monthly e-newsletter and on our website, Facebook page, and Instagram page.
THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for the January 27 fundraising dinner at 5 Olde Tavern - by our count, 37 WRP supporters enjoyed great food for a good cause last month! There are two more 5 Olde Fundraising Dinners planned this year - I hope you'll consider joining us on both Monday, February 17 and Monday, March 30.

Monday, February 17: Fundraising Dinner #2
The WRP and 5 Olde Tavern in South Royalton invite you to enjoy a great dinner for a good cause on Monday, February 17. Eat dinner anytime between 5pm and 9pm and 5 Olde will donate 10% of your food purchases to support WRP work in 2020. RSVP to join the WRP Board of Directors table at 6pm (optional).
Can't join us in February? The third and final 5 Olde Fundraising Dinner will be on Monday, March 30.
Peavine Whitewater Race will support White River Water Trail work
On Saturday, May 9 the Rochester-Randolph Area Sports Trail Alliance (RASTA) is hosting the Peavine Whitewater Race on a section of the White River. The 8.75-mile race will start at the Peavine Observation Site in Stockbridge and end at Tozier's Restaurant in Bethel. Race proceeds will support both RASTA and the White River Water Trail. Students learn about "Riparian Track & Sign"
Seven school groups will venture to the river with the WRP this winter. Through the WRP's Riparian Track & Sign program, students learn how to find evidence of wildlife activity along the river corridor. As a follow-up, students will help the WRP plant trees along the river this spring - a hands-on opportunity to improve wildlife habitat along the river!
