         Advanced Track*: 6:30 - 7:50 p.m.

Place: DBH 1427 map here

*Prerequisite: Solid Linear Algebra
Basic Track
5:20 - 6:20 p.m.
  • Bring your laptop with Qiskit installed
  • Working on Quantum Challenge - Adder! (Try to work on it before looking at the solutions!)
Advanced Track
6:30 - 7:50 p.m.
  • Working through selected problems and notes from Week3 - Week5 of Prof. Irani's course and QCQI by Nielsen and Chuang.

Summary of Week 4 Meeting

Basic Track
  • Quantum Gates: Chris went over the mathematical representation of quantum gates using unitary matrices and their properties. Using the quantum gates, he demonstrated Deutsch's algorithm, a quantum algorithm that is exponentially faster than any deterministic classical algorithm. His slides can be found here.
  • Intro to Qiskit:  After learning the theoretical part of quantum computing, Tony introduced IBM's Qiskit, an open-source framework for quantum computing. Using Qiskit, he created a simple bell state using 2 qubits. Also, he briefly mentioned other programming language such as Open Quantum Assembly Language (QASM) and introduced different layers of quantum programming.  His slides can be found here. The python notebooks used can be found here and here.
All the slides for this quarter can be found in this google drive folder.
Advanced Track
  • We worked through Prof. Irani's problems for the first two weeks as a club. After the problems, Michael demonstrated some tricks on quantum mechanics and linear algebra. We decided to work on Prof. Irani's homework sets (Week 3 and 4) and selected problems from Chuang and Nielsen's Quantum Computing and Quantum Information".

Summary of Last Quarter

We learnt the basics of quantum gates, Deutsch-Jozsa algorithm and Shor's algorithm. We also implemented it with Cirq and Qiskit. Finally, we ran the code on IBM Q Experience, the free cloud quantum computer from IBM!

Also, we heard from Prof. Sandy Irani about her research and opinion on many interesting topics including the recent supremacy argument. Moreover, we heard from our grad members about their research from various background such as physics, CS, chemistry and music. We were fascinated by their expectation for quantum computing and quantum information.

All the slides from the last quarter can be found in our club's Google Drive.

Welcome!

Hi Anteaters! We are excited to have many new members! Thanks for everyone who came by our booth on Thursday. Whatever background you may have, as long as you find QC interesting, we look forward to your participation! Let's start this new year by studying and exploiting the wonderful quantum magic!

QC@UCI?

QC@UCI was founded during this past summer by passionate undergraduate and graduate students from various backgrounds. From the very beginning, we aim to connect people from different fields and encourage everyone to learn something new as the inherently interdisciplinary nature of quantum computing and quantum information suggests. Moreover, we hope to stimulate the research and general interest towards this topic at UCI.

But how? We have planned 3 kinds of activities

Paper Discussion

Paper discussion sessions to keep you informed with the latest advancement.

Presentations

Presentations from students, professors and industry speakers to give you a taste of QC.

Projects

Projects will be led by experienced students. Find a project of your interest or invent your own!

Stay Tuned!

Please join our Slack workspace for more information! Whatever background you may have, as long as you find QC interesting, we look forward to your participation!
