2. Alice is off to evokeAG!

Together with Agrifutures Australia, Future Farmers Network offered one member a complimentary ticket and $500 travel bursary to the upcoming evokeAG. Conference in Melbourne.

evokeAG. allows delegates to explore what’s next in the agrifood tech space, covering three main themes; Food – Farm – Future. evokeAG. is an immersive experience delivering diverse topics and cutting edge innovation from across the region and around the world. It is the only event of its type where people come together to connect, collaborate and evolve all things agriculture.

We had some FANTASTIC applications and it has hard work selecting  winner from all the great answers to our question "What do you think the future of food is". But we couldn't go past Alice Clarke, a farm technologist from Moree, NSW.

Here's a snippet of her answer, and you can read it in full here.

"The future of food is merging the gaps between everyone in the supply chain through the use of information and technology. Having information and data that flows both ways involving the producer, consumer and everyone in between. It is using that data captured on farm to form the beginning of the story on how the product was produced."

evokeAG is a sell out, but make sure you follow their FACEBOOK page for plenty of updates throughout the event!

3. Farmers2Founders Ideas Program now open

What do we mean by ideas? This program is designed for primary producers in the agri-food and fibre industry with an idea for a new business, an invention to commercialise, or who are working on a value-add product. What does F2F provide? We help producers + entrepreneurs get started, get unstuck, and get the support they need to turn  ideas or inventions into a business. Over 12 weeks, F2F provides funding, coaching, tools, and more to support producers to work out if their business idea is worth pursuing. The program is largely remote, with one in person session in March to kickoff the program. Find out more right here!

If you are heading to EvokeAg next week in Melbourne next week (18th-19th of February), Farmers2Founders will have a stall in the CRDCC space on both days and would love to chat with you about your business and the innovation programs we run.
They also welcome you to attend our Farmers2Founders Pitch Night on Wednesday the 19th February, where 8 of the Bootcamp innovators will pitch their business ideas to investors and industry leaders and representatives.
Please find more information here. Look forward to seeing you there.
4. Intercollegiate Meat Judging Northern Conference

University students and young professionals in agricultural industries can now register to attend the second annual Intercollegiate Meat Judging Association’s (ICMJ) Northern Conference on April 15-18.

Hosted by CQUniversity and Teys Australia in Rockhampton, the conference was designed as a specialist event to showcase the northern beef industry. Unlike ICMJ’s flagship Wagga event, which provides meat science training in beef, lamb and pork for university students through a competitive environment, the Rockhampton Conference is focused on the unique challenges and opportunities that the broader Northern Australian beef industry offers.

“The ICMJ Northern Conference has been designed to cater for both university students seeking knowledge, careers advice and the opportunity to compete in meat judging competition, as well as young industry professionals seeking to enhance their career prospects through professional development training,” ICMJ Northern Committee chair Ethan Mooney said.

“It really is a unique opportunity for experienced beef industry professionals to study side by side and share knowledge with the next generation of industry leaders.”

CQUniversity’s Michael Thomson said the expanded conference program would feature both presentations and hands-on workshops, covering topics including how to use genetic selection technologies on farm to enhance the eating experience for the end consumer, as well as a Northern Industry Exhibition and Careers Expo.

“The conference will also include keynote presentations on some of the global challenges facing the beef industry, such as changing consumer preferences, as well as detailed skills training in identifying beef cuts and assessing the factors that affect eating quality like colour, fat and age,” Mr Thomson said.
Registrations for the ICMJ Northern Conference are $240 (inc. GST) per person, which includes all lunches and dinners. A special package, including four nights accommodation at the CQUniversity residential college, is available for $330 (inc. GST) – numbers are limited and preference will be given to university students. You can register here.
