Hello West Dupont and 2B02 neighbors,
Thank you for reading my newsletter about happenings in West Dupont and 2B02.
Repaving on Florida Avenue between Massachusetts and Connecticut
The District Department of Transportation will be repaving Florida Avenue between Massachusetts Avenue and Connecticut Avenue. The work will begin on or about February 24th. From DDOT:
The concrete phase of work will include the upgrading of wheelchair ramps, repair of sidewalks, repair of curbs and gutters. The second phase of work will be asphalt roadway paving within the project limits. There will be a second notification letter sent to all residents in the impacted area that will list the start date and the estimated duration of work prior to the start of the asphalt roadway paving phase of this project.
If weather conditions, schedule changes or unforeseen issues do not permit our contractor to begin this work on the date stated above, the new start date for construction will be listed on the Emergency No Parking Signs posted on the poles and trees throughout the construction project site.
Throughout the construction area, at least one lane of traffic will be maintained. Access to the adjacent houses will also be maintained. Curbside parking will be restricted at this location during construction hours. "EMERGENCY NO PARKING" signs will be posted seventy-two (72) hours prior to the commencement of construction in your area.
All work will be conducted from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, Monday through Saturday.
Annabelle Pubic Space Requests
Annabelle opened last month to significant acclaim. At this upcoming ANC meeting, they are asking for public space permits to operate a car valet service an a sidewalk cafe. The hours proposed for the sidewalk cafe meet the ANC's hours guidelines. Both of these applications were discussed when they applied for their liquor license, but it can take time to get all the licenses required for full operation.
Comprehensive Plan on ANC Agenda this month
As I covered in much more detail through my December newsletter, the Comprehensive Plan is four years into its quinquennial update process. Over the past few months I have heard from neighbors and community groups on items which should be adjusted in the proposed amendments. A draft motion was circulated by the ANC in advance of our meeting this week which touches on several of the issues. Some of the proposed changes in the motion, such as the portion regarding Stead Park and the K Street transitway, reflect updates in planning processes from District entities since the last time the ANC weighed in on the Comprehensive Plan updates in January 2017, May 2017, and March 2018. Other changes, such as changing the Future Land Use Map designation for a few blocks of Connecticut Avenue are more controversial policy questions. Please let me know what you think about the ideas in this draft motion!
Dupont Circle North Metro Canopy on hold
Last month ABC broke the news that a bankrupt glass contractor is the reason for the delays on building a canopy at the Dupont North station. Hopefully the project gets back on track soon.
Anderson House Recruiting Volunteers
The American Revolution Institute of the Society of the Cincinnati at Anderson House is looking for volunteer docents passionate about history and decorative arts to lead tours of the museum. Please reach out to Kelsey Atwood, tour and public program manager at the museum, at katwood@societyofthecincinnati.org if you would like to volunteer.
In Closing
For official meeting notices and a full list of what we’re reviewing each month, please sign up for the ANC’s newsletter. Hope to see you at a meeting soon. Our next meeting is Wednesday February 12th at 7PM.
Best,
Daniel
