- Nectar’s shooter sentenced to 12 and a half years on federal gun charges via VTDigger
BURLINGTON — Rashad Nashid, who shot a bystander outside of Nectar’s nightclub in 2018, was sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison Monday in federal court. Nashid shot and seriously injured Chelsea Parker outside of Nectar’s on Feb. 26, 2018. Parker was shot in the lung and hospitalized at the University of Vermont Medical Center.

That was quite the snowstorm last week. I heard from several people that they were upset that the snow plows did not make it to their side street in Burlington for as long as two days after the snow started. And I think they were right, because I saw a couple streets like that myself.
The plow drivers have a really tough job, so I sympathize with them. That said, their management needs to ensure that plows make it to every single street in Burlington in a timely manner. If we don't have enough plows, we should spend money buying more, instead of redoing parks that don't need to be redone. It's a safety issue. If a person needs to get to the hospital and their street isn't cleared in a reasonable amount of time, I can only think the department of public works will receive a well deserved lawsuit.

The defective/failing/sagging basement hatch cover has created a dangerous situation for years now. When I saw that concrete barriers had been placed around it several weeks ago, it seemed that this was a good sign that the hatch was going to be replaced once and for all with something that did not create a trip hazard for the public. Who would’ve thought that the concrete barriers would be in place long-term? These barriers create an obstacle to safe pedestrian travel. Now, with the snow, this is creating an increasingly hazardous situation. I’m standing here in front of the Burton store, watching pedestrians gingerly walk through the 10 inch wide gap between the concrete barriers and the wall of snow. Someone is going to fall and break their hip. How can this be allowed to remain in hazard for so many years?

Hi - the wide sidewalk-plow did our block of College St. this morning, and partly wrecked our low brick wall on both sides of the entrance. This is a Burlington Housing Authority building occupied by seniors and disabled persons. It is urgent that you come fix the brickwork ASAP. Brickwork is strewn on the sidewalk, on top of the snow-covered wall, and it's a real mess. Thank you.

The sidewalk west of the 'Jersey Barrier' has not been plowed, creating a hazard for citizens and customers. Staff at our store has tried to maintain a pathway However, without an initial plow through, there is a small space to put the snow. What we have achieved, looks more like a mountain goat path than a usable city sidewalk
I've seen numerous people slipping and needing to grab at the railing on handicap ramp so they won't fall further.
