10 Fun Activities for Your Dog This Summer

Summer is here and it is a perfect time to venture out and make some new memories with your pup. Here are 10 ideas for fun activities you can do with your canine companion.

1. Kiddie Pool
This is a good option even for the less physically active dogs. Fill a child's pool with water and your pup can have lots of fun splashing around while keeping cool.  You can also toss apple slices into the pool for a "bobbing" game or throw some floating toys in for them to play with.

2. Bubbles
Blowing bubbles in your back yard is a fun and easy way to occupy your fur kids. Many dogs love chasing them and the erratic movement of the bubbles gives them an extra challenge. Hint: if your bottle runs out you can always make some more solution at home using water with some dish detergent.

3. Sandbox
Dogs typically love to dig holes so why not pick a shady spot in your yard and put a sandbox out for them?

4. Sprinklers
Try turning on your sprinkler for your dogs. They will have a blast jumping in and out of the streams of water and trying to catch water in their mouth!

5. Hiking
Find a park near you with some trails and take a day trip with your best friend. Great way for dog and owner to bond while giving both some great exercise. Be sure to bring your backpack and make sure your dog has access to plenty of water.

6. Ice Cream
Consider taking your puppers out for some ice cream. A small amount of vanilla ice cream is safe for your pups to lick (avoid chocolate). Some ice cream shops even have their own special frozen treats for dogs.

7. Swimming
Take your dog to the lake or maybe let them take a dip in your backyard pool. Many of them love to swim and certain breeds are even built for the task (black labs even have webbed feet!)

8. Camping
Pack a tent and head for the woods with your canine pal. Camping is a great way to bond while experiencing the beauty of nature with your buddy. If a tent is too primitive for you, you may want to consider 'glamping' in a pod or a yurt.

9. Canoeing
If you and your dog are the adventurous type, why not let your pup tag along for a paddle on the lake? Make sure your dog is wearing a PFD (pet flotation device) and that they are comfortable around water.

10. Shopping
Take your dog out and do a little shopping therapy. Consider bringing your pooch to the pet store (many of them allow pets inside) and let them pick out a new toy. Be sure to set a budget so that you don't get carried away (we do love our pets).

These tips should help keep you and your best friend active and entertained during the hot Summer months (or as we like to call them.... dog-days!) Have fun!
