Hello Hope!

I hope you are doing well…here are a few things I want to make sure are on your radar:

Faith Talk

The Buddhists are coming!!! It’s true…they are.

Faith Talk this Wednesday (tomorrow) @ 6:30pm in the Welcome Center we will be hosting leaders from a local Buddhist community.

In Christianity, there are different types or denominations (Catholic, Lutheran, Pentecostal, Baptist, etc). This is true of nearly all religions and Buddhism is no different.

Come tomorrow night to learn about a different kind of diversity…diversity between religions. If you don’t know much about Buddhism, then this is your chance.

See you tomorrow!

Atheism for Lent

Lastly, we are only about one month away from Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. This year we will, by popular demand, engage once again in the Lenten journey called ATHEISM for LENT. I understand that this title can be a bit jarring, but its popularity here at Hope should speak something to us about the powerful spiritual journey that is Atheism for Lent. For a more in-depth definition, here is the link to Peter Rollins’ website where is explains more about it: CLICK HERE

What is it? Well, it is a Lenten devotional by Peter Rollins, where there are readings every single day of lent. Due to the weight of the material, we also meet once every week to unpack and share our collective journey.

If you are interested in when we will gather and would like more general information, please CLICK HERE.

CALLING ALL QUILTERS and CROCHETERS

As you likely know, the family of Hope gives blankets to children on the day of their baptism, BUT we have a problem! We do not have many people who have that skill and are willing/able to make some blankets.

So, if you quilt or crochet and are willing to help out, call/email the office for more details.

THANK YOU!

SERVICE and COLLECTIONS

I think I created some confusion in church on Sunday with the “Days for Girls” collection. Here is a blurb from Service Team to clear things up:

Menstruation is the number one reason that girls miss school around the world, particularly in developing countries.  Days for Girls provides reusable supplies to make sure that menstruation never stands in the way of education.  So we are collecting (only) underwear in girls and women's sizes to be used for Days for Girls' donation kits.  The details on sizes and styles needed can be found on Hope's website, in the e-news, or on the collection bin in the Welcome Center.

In addition, in February we are collecting socks and washcloths for our next Bags of Hope assembly to assist the homeless in southeast Michigan.

Also, Service Team will be in the Welcome Center gathering volunteers and donations for our commitment to host South Oakland Shelter (traveling homeless shelter) with Antioch on March 12th and March 14th-15th.  Ways you can help range from serving meals, interacting with the guests, donating specific items for meals, and donating $5 gift cards as Bingo prizes.  We will  be in the welcome center on February 23rd and March 1 between and after all services.

That is all for today!
