Community Environmental Council Welcomes New Members to Board of Directors, Partnership Council and President's Council

Local leaders bring expertise to support CEC's work in renewable energy, climate justice, and sustainable communities.

February 19, 2020, SANTA BARBARA, CA—The Community Environmental Council (CEC) is pleased to announce new members to its Board of Directors, President's Council, and Partnership Council.

New to CEC Board of Directors

CEC’s Board of Directors provide strategic input on CEC’s mission to create local solutions to the challenges of climate change. These two new members bring expertise in land use and green business, as well as strong records of giving back to the community.

Elliott MacDougall is the founder of Weymouth Development Group, a leading energy real estate development company. A published thought leader and policy advocate for domestic energy infrastructure reform and renewable energy expansion, Elliott has been a member of CEC's Partnership Council for two years.

Dr. David N. Pellow is the Dehlsen Chair and a professor of Environmental Studies at UCSB, where he also directs the Global Environmental Justice Project. Along with publishing a number of works on environmental justice issues, he has also consulted for and served o the Board of Directors for several community-based, national, and international organizations that are dedicated to environmental justice.

In January, CEC's Board of Directors also elected a new Treasurer, Kathy Yeung. She joins current Board officers John Steed (President), Catherine Brozowski (Vice President), and Charles Newman (Secretary).

New to CEC Partnership Council

CEC’s Partnership Council is comprised of a broad spectrum of community leaders who act as ambassadors to advocate, network, and promote on behalf of CEC.

Karen Brill is a school counselor and family therapist who co-founded the Sustainable Change Alliance and currently leads the local chapter of Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project. A member of the Women's Fund and long-time docent at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, she has served on the Board of Angels Foster Care, Canticle a capella Choir, and the Santa Barbara Choral Society.

Linda Cheresh is a Senior Private Banking Relationship Manager in the Santa Barbara office of Northern Trust with over 27 years of experience in the financial services industry. She is on the Board of the Santa Barbara Symphony and CAMA, and is a member of the Women’s Fund.

Sally Terrell served as the Assistant General Manager of Saks Beverly Hills before moving to Santa Barbara in 1995 to raise two sons. An active community volunteer, she has now resumed her art and design career.

New to CEC President's Council

CEC’s President's Council is made up of founders, past directors and esteemed friends who have given significantly of their time, effort and resources to the organization.

Carla Frisk served as Administrative Assistant for Senator/former Assemblymember Jack O’Connell for 20 years, providing expertise and advice on the myriad environmental policy issues that came before the Legislature, from offshore oil to toxic waste and coastal land issues. Carla is now a consultant, working in the area of land conservation, and was a longtime CEC Board member.

Mike Noling is a former managing partner at Accenture, and past President and CEO of Wavefront Technologies. He has served as President of the Santa Barbara Region Chamber of Commerce and as a Board member of several area organizations, including the United Way and the Community Environmental Council.
