Collaboration with Region Västra Götaland

Last month, Region Västra Götaland and Cochrane Sweden started a collaboration to further support Evidence-Based Medicine within the region. This will include training events, workshops and methodological support. Region Västra Götaland will join Region Skåne in supporting Cochrane Sweden to bring trusted evidence, informed decision and support for better health to patients, clinicians and policymakers in Sweden.

We are exploring similar collaborations with other regions in Sweden. If you would like to know more about this collaboration and how you might get involved - do not hesitate to contact us.


Cochrane Special Collection: Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)

The 2019 Coronavirus Outbreak was declared a global Public Health Emergency by WHO on 30th of January 2020.

In response, Cochrane has released a Special Collection: Coronavirus (2019-nCoV): evidence relevant to critical care. The collection pulls together Cochrane Reviews that are most relevant to the management of people hospitalized with severe acute respiratory infections. You can access the collection here.

A second collection of Cochrane Reviews relevant to public health and the prevention of infection is currently under developement and will be released shorty.

 

Podcast: Förebyggande av arbetsrelaterad stress bland hälso- och sjukvårdspersonal
Last month Cochrane published a podcast about how to prevent occupational stress for people working in health care.  It's based on the study "Preventing Occupational Stress in Healthcare Workers", published in 2015 in the Cochrane Library.

The 5 minute podcast is in Swedish and is made by associate professor Charlotte Wåhlin.  Since 2015 Charlotte Wåhlin has continued to perform research focusing on work environment for healthcare workers. Here you can take part of Charlottes ORCID-profile.

Upcoming lecture: Verktyg för Systematiska Översikter

The bi-annual conference - Medicinska Bibliotekskonferensen - will be hosted in Lund in 23-24th of April. Cochrane Sweden will be represented and will give a lecture about "Verktyg för systematiska översikter", where technical support as Covidence, Rayyan and RevMan will be discussed.

Upcoming courses and workshops

Workshop on the Cochrane Dissemination Checklist.
Cochrane Norway will host a workshop for the new Cochrane Dissemination Checklist in Olso between 20-21 of April. The workshop is open for everyone who is interested in how to disseminate systematic reviews to the public, patients, clinicians and policymakers.

Research meeting - Corporate influence on research
Cochrane Nordic will host a research meeting regarding corporate influence on research in Copenhagen the 11th of March at 1 pm. The meeting will be led by Alice Fabbri, a medical doctor with a specialization in public health and a researcher at the Centre for Evidence Based Medicine Odense.

Research meeting - The new Cochrane Risk of bias tool (RoB2)
Cochrane Nordic will host a research meeting regarding the new Risk of Bias tool in Copenhagen 28th of April at 11.00. The Cochrane Risk of Bias too, which  is the most frequently used tool to access risk of bias in randomized trials, was published in a revised version in 2019 (RoB2). The meeting will be led by Asbjørn Hróbjartsson, a professor at Centre for Evidence Based Medicine Odense and co-convenor of the Cochrane Bias Methods Group.

Suggestions for future courses and workshops

At Cochrane Sweden, we offer a number of courses and workshops for people interested in learning to conduct, edit and read systematic reviews.

In February,
we held our very first two day workshop in the Baltics at University of Tartu together with Cochrane Nordic.

 

Cochrane Sweden regularly offer courses all over Sweden and Europe. We are always looking for new topics and locations for the next course. Any suggestions for future locations or specific workshops or courses would be welcome. Please contact us by email if you have an idea or suggestion for a future course/workshop for 2020. 
 

Lung cancer screening - Article in Dagens Medicin

Last month, Dagens Medicin published an article about a new study examining screening for lung cancer in men with high risk. Minna Johansson, a researcher at Cochrane Sweden and director of the Cochrane Group Sustainable Healthcare,  was interviewed about the risk of overdiagnosis when screening for lung cancer and the study limitations in the present study. You can read the article at Dagens Medicin (paywall) and read the original article in New England Journal of Medicine.
