News from WORK:
More phone booths coming soon! Not sure what's happened lately, but private phone space is a hot commodity these days. I think too many of you have been promoted to senior management, requiring you to lead more and more meetings. ;) But not to fear, two more are on the way so we'll have five in total and you can talk to your heart's content.

WORK will be CLOSED for drop-ins on Monday, February 17th. Some of you may have this day off because it's technically President's Day, but the real reason to celebrate is because it is my birthday! (And coWORKer Nancy Sands' birthday, too!)

See you at WORK! (But not this Monday ;)

ROUNDTABLE: Artificial Intelligence and Artificial Consciousness

Monday, Feb 17th
12:00 - 1:30 PM

WORK Petaluma Library
10 4th Street

Nelson R. (“Buzz”) Kellogg enjoys being in conversation with others about topics that spur the imagination. An emeritus professor of The Hutchins School of Liberal Studies Studies at SSU, Buzz spent twenty-three years leading students through adventures in pondering big questions. He led us in a rousing discussion of AI a few weeks ago and is back with his own series of talks. Up next:

A talk about the very controversial idea of machine learning evolving into what is called A.G.I., or Artificial General Intelligence.  This does not yet exist, but it would be the point at which human intelligence will be forever transcended by software and machines. This is also the stage, according to scientist and futurist Ray Kurzweil (of Google), when AI will be able to mimic human consciousness and become self-aware entities.  This will also allow the entire “mindscape” of actual humans to be uploaded into the computer cloud, giving way to “cybernetic immortality."

Bag lunchers welcome.
