Join Lincoln Choirs!

Lincoln will offer two choir classes during the school day next year, Concert Choir and Advanced Chorale, which will provide singing opportunities for both low and high voices. There are options for advanced singers, as well as those with no singing background who want to learn. All ensembles are a year-long, and one credit.

Students should initially sign up for Concert Choir. Those who want to audition for Advanced Chorale should sign up in the music department or contact Aimee Mell.

Auditions for the Advanced Chorale will include singing a short excerpt of student choice (one minute or less), sight-reading, and a review of the student range and listening skills.

Auditions start in late February and may continue throughout the spring.

Great Performance—Lincoln Chamber Orchestra

On February 5, 2020, the Lincoln Chamber Orchestra, under the leadership of Ms. Victoria Greenbaum, performed at the Northwest Region Strings Concert, hosted by Ballard High School. They played Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis by Frank Bridge. For the All-Play Extravanganza, Lincoln students joined the other participating orchestras to perform Beethoven's Ode to Joy. Other participants included Ballard Chamber Orchestra, Whitman Senior Orchestra, McClure Advanced STrings, Eagle Staff Senior Orchestra, Catherine Blaine MS Orchestra, and several Elementary Strings. Congratulations to all performers for a job well done!

PTSA Updates

PTSA Board elections will take place at the Spring Membership Meeting in May. Look for more information about the board positions and committees in upcoming newsletters. The Lincoln PTSA exists to support our students, teachers, staff, and families. We do this by organizing events, recruiting and providing volunteers and raising funds to support students and teachers. And we can't do it without YOU!

We want to thank Jo Langford for his helpful and illuminating presentation on the topic of Consent at last week's Membership Meeting. These conversations should be happening with our students now as they are navigating the complex waters of high school relationships. He also shared the Tea Consent video, which can help explain this complicated issue. More information about Jo can be found here.

Volunteer Opportunity: gigs@Lincoln

PAL is seeking one or more parents willing to establish a new program for music students to be able to perform in the community. This is a fun opportunity that provides music students with experience working as musicians for hire. The parents would be responsible for creating procedures with ASB staff for evaluating opportunities and accepting payment (which would go towards the Lincoln ASB account for future needs) and then running the program in partnership with ASB and student performers. There are programs at other area high schools that can serve as examples. For more information, please contact Ed Phippen.

MEET ROBIN WARE!

Q&A with Robin Ware:

What is your preferred name and pronouns? My preferred name is Robin or Ms. Ware with the students, and my preferred pronouns are she/her.

What do you do at Lincoln? I teach health and PE, and I am the assistant volleyball coach.

At what other schools have you worked? II taught at McClure Middle School and worked at Auburn Riverside, Bainbridge, and Chief Sealth as an athletic trainer.

What traditions or personal touches are you bringing to Lincoln? My high school was also new, my freshman year was its first year, so I got to experience all the same things the students are going through now. I don't know that I have any traditions I'm bringing, but I'm looking forward to starting some.

What's your favorite memory of high school?
Wow, well, I think my favorite memory from high school would be going to Malibu, Canada, a Young Life camp. Most of my best friends went, it's absolutely beautiful there. It was so much fun and a very eye-opening experience that's still stuck with me today.

Thank you, Robin, for sharing with us!

Paille, Administrative Coordinator, Phinney Neighborhood Association with questions—206.783-2244.

Monday, February 24th
10th Grade Parent/ Guardian Roundtable

7:30-9:30 pm @ Lincoln Commons

How are things going at your house?  What are your biggest parenting challenges at the moment? Do you wonder how other parents are handling screen use? substance use? academic issues? Do you have great book recommendations to share? Maybe you just want to share your successes and frustrations in what we hope will be a confidential, judgment-free space.

This will be a casual gathering for 10th-grade parents without facilitators or district staff. The plan is to pre-select 4-5 topics based on your input (via this survey) and divide into small groups according to personal interests. If all goes well, we'll suggest that the PTSA look into organizing additional events, including a multi-week parenting series led by professional parenting coaches. Please RSVP if you plan to attend.
