Make up your own songs with a live musical improviser every week. We will cover basics such as rhyming, song structure, song styles, song presentation, lyrics, duets, short form singing games, and communicating with the musical improviser. We’ll also go further into fun long-form musical theater stuff–singing, dancing, scenes and story. We’ll even get to re-improvise your favorite song or musical number.

Your Musical Improv 201 Instructor

Sarah Marie Curry has been an actor for 16 years and an improvisation actor and teacher for 8 years. On stage, she has been called “hilarious” “fierce” “truly exceptional” and is a B. Iden Payne Awards winner for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical for her role as “Jaime” in "The Last Five Years". She was a proud member of the B. Iden Payne Award-Winning Troupe "Girls Girls Girls Improvised Musicals" for 7.5 years and currently stars as one half of dramatic improv duo Cascade also nominated for a B. Iden Payne Award for Outstanding Improv Troupe.  Offstage, she is a passionate coach, director, teacher and producer of improvisational theater and is currently teaching advanced improv in three of the five dedicated improv schools in Austin: The Hideout Theatre, The Institution Theater and Merlin Works School of Improvisation.

Diversity Scholarship

Merlin Works offers the Diversity Scholarship to foster diversity both onstage and off. Two scholarships are awarded each session and may be applied to any of our Improv programs. This half-tuition scholarship is good from the first level of the chosen program through to its completion, contingent on satisfactory attendance and success in class. The Merlin Works Diversity Scholarship primarily aims to further open the world of Austin Improv to people of color, though individuals who identify with any minority background, culture, or community are welcome to apply.
